One thing I like to do is to check up on former Denver Broncos post career to see what they are up to. Came across this article today. Good for Franklin. Nice to see a rather large man trim down post NFL career. Jeff Saturday and Marshal Yanda among others have done the same.

Always good to see these guys take their health serious after leaving the NFL. I just always wonder how much damage some of these guys are doing to their bodies when they are almost forcing themselves to stay at a higher weight than what the body desires for years.

Yeah - I was thinking - if this is the natural Orlando Franklin - all that weight was artificially induced.

According to BMI measurements someone that is around 6'7" tall (what Franklin is) should be around 240 lbs. and that is on the heavy end. So yeah what these guys do is not healthy for their body in the long-term. I remember having a coach that made it to Division I football and they had him eating something that was made to put on the weight fast. He gained like 40 lbs. in just a few months. Said he never felt worse in his life and yet then was asked to go out and play football in that situation.

It's a lot more common than people think. Lifting heavy, eating programs that include up to 11000 calories a day in some cases, and the inevitable weight loss that occurs if you're injured or late in the season.

To be that athletic while holding that much mass (muscle, fat and otherwise) is more impressive to me than a WR that can run a 4.3
