Team chemistry is SUPER important. 2010 and 2012 both showed that.

We are currently up by 7.5, and the doggies are losing 2-0 in the forth. I can agree that we will slow down from our pace, and they MAY pick up from theirs. But for the division to be won by < 5 games, that would mean that you expect them to be better than us for the remainder of the season, and I just don't see that.

Well, by definition if we slow from our current pace and the Dodgers pick up theirs then they do better than us for the remainder.

We have 38 wins, they have 31. If we finish with say 95 (a reasonable slowdown), we go 57-46 the rest of the way (which seems right, about a 90 win pace for the remainder). The Dodgers, if they do pick it up, can easily go 61-41 and finish 4 games behind us.

Of course maybe it's pessimistic to think we slow our pace, or that the Dodgers improve theirs, but it seems realistic to do so.

Ummm...not necessarily. We're playing .644 ball; they're playing .508 ball. We could "slow" to .575 ball and they could "pick up" to .550 ball and we'd win the division by double digits.

I believe part of L.A.'s problem is that too many of the players are vets with sizable contracts. Less incentive to try hard if you've already been paid. Every good team needs a few talented pre-arb guys who put in the extra effort for that future contract. It rubs off on the whole team.

Mattingly is a buffoon. That is a given.

However, remember where a good portion of these guys came from... Boston. And why were all these guys available? Because they were all cancers in the clubhouse.

Not. Surprised.

My thoughts exactly. It's no coincidence that Boston won the WS once they got rid of all that riff raff.

Yeah I thought of that after I posted...so it's not 'by definition' but it's not difficult to expect some regression for us and improvement for them. We're all fat and happy right now but there's a TON of baseball left and the players should eventually mostly revert to what's expected of them.

Again, I'm now expecting us to challenge for the division to the very end and it feels like we'll win it. I find it hard to believe we will run away with it.

That's what happens when you post about the current game in something other than the GDT.

The Dbacks, Giants, Padres, and Rockies (against the Dodgers no less) won on walkoffs tonight.

Puig and Gordon leave with injuries for LA.

"The fact there are no further tests scheduled [for Gordon or Puig] leads me to believe, hopefully, it's a day-to-day situation for them," said manager Don Mattingly, who could field a starting lineup Sunday missing five regulars -- with Carl Crawford, Juan Uribe and A.J. Ellis already on the disabled list.
