Maybe Hurdle knows something we dont, Snider couldnt even manage to foul a pitch off.. Its just 1 ab, but he looked terrible.

So the report I read about Sanchez starting over Snyder I wasn't crazy. Sorry never found the link but if that is going to be case why not eliminate the platoon all together let Snyder go and keep more valuable bench hitters around?

Well, today could have gone worse.

It could have gone better, but I'm trying to look on the bright side here.

At least Pedro capitalized on one of his RBI opportunities.

Was it actually supposed to be a platoon? I never got that impression. Or maybe I missed something.

I'm not a huge Gaby Sanchez fan, but I'm also not a huge Snider fan. Other than the platoon angle, it's a defensible position to start Sanchez over Snider, IMO.

I thought Jones and Sanchez at first were. Thats what I was refering to the platoon sorry it was confusing. (Trust me I really don't like Sanchez or Snider either!)

BTW...I thought Jones hitting second was not a good idea. I wonder about today if Walker was 2nd and got that hit in the 1st inning if they would have scored? I know Jones reached base on the error but if that was Walker's single Marte might have been at third. I know it is nitpicking on my part but still makes you wonder.

I was referring to first base too, I guess I never got the impression it was a strict platoon there. I figured Jones was going to start at RF/1B and Tabata, Snider, and Sanchez were in a three way play for the other spot.

i think jones would start against all righties.
initially, he would only sit against certain tough lefties. unless he was a dog against soft lefties, he would get some play against lefties.
sanchez would start at first against the tough lefties, be a late inning D replacement, and a righty power off he bench.
tabata would start against lefties and snider against righties unless one of them shows they can outdo the other.
both provide PH and some speed to PR if nec.
both play D.
snider getting bumped with a righty on the mound was a pleasant surprise as hurdle trying to field the best infield D and reward the sanchez spring.
we need just one of those 2 OF, tabata or snider, to be average at least.

Yea, that sounds about right.

Makes sense and I guess I thought of it that way also. Never truly thought it was a hard platoon but Sanchez would start against lefties more since Jones numbers are dreadful. But I agree with the lack of talent it would be crazy to not have Jones in the lineup as much as possible.

My biggest point was if Snider is are more in a 4th/5th role on the team I truly think that position could have been better served but we know since he was a NH deal and he will want him to get his chance.

if NH was really making 100% of decisions, snider or tabata would be in RF on opening day as he went after snider and gave tabata the big contract.
based on who was there in camp, pie played well, but we still ahve him in AAA anyways.
none of the 4 - presley, snider, tabata, pie really won, so going with the body of evidence and upside potential and age/options/etc won out.
i have no problem with these 2, but please, one of the 4 do something this year.

Well they were both on the opening day roster for two reasons:
1. NH did trade for them.
2. They were out of options.
So I would think he had a lot to do with making sure they stayed around.

I know they don't have anything better but it just seems with his deals he put to much in that basket with the hope a failed prospect would turn it around.

Honestly it is a shame because I don't see any of the 4 really doing anything. The biggest hope for me is Tabata but that just looks to be a bad contract.

We'll see what they do today with the lineup facing Edwin Jackson. I'd probably start Snider just so everyone gets some starts early in the season.

Wandy pitched really well today. There are still three guys out there with his name on them, but Soriano should have been out on strikes long before his hit, and the pitches he made to strike out the last two guys were very well executed.

Now we just need to hold onto this one.

And Watson got us out of it. Nice.

2-0 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Barmes with the double, Watson bunts him over (really nice bunt), and then Marte takes advantage of the drawn in infield to drive him in.

But man, Castillo's arm is killer. Two straight throws down to second that were absolutely perfect. Right on the bag.

Watson looked awfully sharp that inning. Good debut for him.

Watson looked good, hopefully it is a good sign for the probable future closer.

As for the lineup Walker is just wasting away with no one hitting around him at all.

For the second time, things worked out such that Walker in the two-hole would have been the better choice.
