I really want to think there's some progressive, or even just image-conscious, owners in this league who think that was fucking insane, the punishment to the team was fucking paltry and both Wirtz needs to sell the team and Bettman & co should be replaced. I really do.

In reality, my guess is most owners are worried there's some kinda shitty similar situation buried in their own team's front offices and don't want to set a precedent they'll have to face themselves someday.

Yeah that is odd. I am guessing it is a barometer to see what type of backlash they get from each candidate. The one with the least gets hired.
