lol at Patrick Maroon chirping the Flames bench - You've got four freaking goals on the season, shut the hell up.

First Shawn Matthias, now Roman Polak and Nick Spaling...what's with these teams thinking these players are this valuable? Don't mind the ridiculous Karlsson chart there.

Be pumped man, he's selling sand in a desert to guys who still think grit alone is an asset.

Dear old school hockey guys...we know that's not valuable in today's NHL. We also know that it's a fun way of saying "can't possess the puck" and "horrible 'against' stats".

pix, is it possible that advanced stats don't tell the whole story? I mean, Yannick Weber has better advanced stats than Kris Russell, yet Weber went through waivers unclaimed and Kris Russell could fetch a package equal to or maybe better than Roman Polak got for the Leafs. Surely not all of these NHL GMs are out to lunch?

I also go back to what McKenzie said a few weeks ago, that teams have internal stat dept.'s that likely have formulas and analysis that us common folks couldn't even dream of.

I'm patiently waiting for Jimmy Rutherford to send Pens goalie prospect Matt Murray to the Flames for Deryk Engelland and Mason Raymond. Come on Jimmy, don't let me down.

BACK OFF DASH, I'LL TASE YOU (is..is it taze?) BRO. No but really, Sprong and Murray aren't touchable. Jarry though...he may be available. Both are good, Murray is just great mechanically while Jarry is the MAF mold of athlete.

Of course there's more, and it also has to be taken into account that these guys weren't on a team with a lot of talent helping bolster those stats. My opinion is usually narrowed to how these guys would fit on the Pens roster, and that doesn't work if you can't skate with speed and handle the puck. I just see the league leaning that way, and for guys that are described best with their "intangibles" to be getting 2nd rounders back seems steep. I've also seen a lot of these stupid rentals go awry, ala Doug Murray. It's just incredible to me to see a guy with those terrible of defensive stats against get such returns. It's one thing if these guys are producing offensive numbers. There are the Phil Kessel's of the world, and they have value, but if your calling card is being a two-way forward, or a shutdown defenseman, and your shot/goal suppression is so miserable, getting decent draft picks back is surprising. Again, sometimes it's circumstantial. Heck, Trevor Daley is an example. He was *miserable* in Chicago, but in a new spot it changed.
