Right down the road at this park used to be two Dek Hockey rinks. 34°05'50.1"N 84°14'05.0"W · 34.097250, -84.234722 One was covered and the other wasn't (you can obviously tell where the uncovered rink was). Maybe if they bring hockey back, they will rebuild and reopen these. A long time ago I would play pickup games here with folks I worked with when I was in town.

They used to have organized leagues here also.
I wish we had dek hockey rinks here. There are a few outdoor asphalt rinks but the roller hockey players have them pretty well monopolized.

Around Pittsburgh there are quite a few. But like for you roller hockey takes over some of them.

We need more dek hockey rinks in my area as the kids take to the tennis courts and not only do they put cracks in the court, but often the net is damaged as well. As a pretty avid tennis player, it makes me quite angry.

does "dek" refer to the court surface (brand name)? ... Ive never heard that term before up here :noidea:

a lot of our old "lacrosse boxes" are gone. So locally, our city went for unnecessary luxury and built 2 outdoor multi sport covered boxes that were supposed to satisfy many user groups. Metro-minor ball hockey association in these parts was excited that they could schedule regular season league games in them ... but the surface they installed was asphalt (wtf ???) ... and for hockey kids who play ball hockey in the spring/summer thats not an ideal surface for their $400 hockey sticks ... so no organized ball hockey in the sports boxes

They build these 2 covered structures and cheap out and go with asphalt :L :ohwell:

Honestly not sure the root of the name but it was called that even when I started playing in the 80's.
Most rinks are outdoors, and the surface is the waffle board plastic and it is essentially ball hockey.

This is the first location I played at way back and there was only one rink there.

The first time I heard it called "Dek" hockey and not just ball hockey was when they installed the low friction plastic surface at the place where I played roller hockey (converted indoor soccer/lacrosse facility). It was first used in shoes only and the roller games were on the concrete floor. To me DekHockey is a combination of the surface and the lack of skates. Once wheels on rollerblades started getting better people started playing on it on wheels.

Prior to that we played ball hockey in rec center and school gyms with no boards. Or on tennis courts.

Mangiapane has been okay as well.

Yes, he's been great. I was just kidding about Dubois as the move of the year obviously, but the fans really like him and his contributions and defensive play has been very strong.

In all seriousness, it's Chychrun that was one of the best offseason moves. He has been phenomenal.

But more than anything, I think Spencer Carbury is just that good that he's making ALL their offseason moves look great.

I agree. I think his shooting percentage will move closer to his historical average and we'll see an increase in goal scoring in the second half of the season to match his impressive defensive performance so far.
