I realize that the month isn't over for some teams, but it is for my team, so cry moar, beches.
But for the Braves, I really can't complain about a 16-11 opening month to the season. The offense is producing, for the most part, the starting pitching has given us a chance to win(none have really blown anyone away, but they generally go around 6 and give up around 3).
The bullpen blows. I don't know if I've ever seen an entire unit struggle with the free pass so much. It isn't just one guy. It's everyone in the pen. There are a couple of bright spots(Shane Carle, Dan Winkler), but as a whole, they drive me crazy. It seems they pitch around the walks most of the time, but they play with fire in nearly every game, and it has burned them a few times. Some of these guys I have seen pitch far better as recently as last season, so I'm hopeful some of them will get things turned around.
But this is the most exciting Braves team in a long time. Albies, Acuna, Swanson and Inciarte have been fun to watch this season. I love the aggression on the base paths, I love their work with the glove, and I love what they have done with the bat.
This is the first time that I can honestly say that I'm cautiously optimistic about this team and I think I can see the light at the end of the rebuilding tunnel.
What's in store the rest of the season? I don't know. I'm not thinking playoffs, but I think finishing .500 or a little better isn't out of the question.
But as for the month of April, I like what I see.
