The win against St. Louis tonight is #57, equalling last year's total..... with 42 games left to play. Every additional win represents a bit of improvement. With the way the team played through mid-July, many fans had come to expect a pretty fantastic year-over-year improvement. At this point, a significant improvement remains likely.

A number of other possible milestones.....
- Win #63, avoids a 100-loss season
- Win #68, represents the team's best season under Huntington
- Win #73, avoids a 90-loss season (first time since 2004)
- Win #76, best season since the turn of the century
- Win #80, best season of the losing streak (Freak Show won 79 games in 1997)
- Win #81, breaks the losing streak (technically)
- Win #82, an actual winning season

Let's Go Bucs!

It took a while, but.....

.....we reached the next milestone:

- Win #57 (Aug.15) matches last year's total

- Win #63 (Sept.2) avoids a 100-loss season

Other possible milestones (all within reach, at least mathematically)
- Win #68, represents the team's best season under Huntington
- Win #73, avoids a 90-loss season (first time since 2004)
- Win #76, best season since the turn of the century
- Win #80, best season of the losing streak (Freak Show won 79 games in 1997)
- Win #81, breaks the losing streak (technically)
- Win #82, an actual winning season

Perhaps we should consider win #67 as a milestone

It represents a 10-win improvement over last year, and ties for the best season under Huntington. Some of those other potential milestones appear to be out of reach. So.....

- Win #57 (Aug.15) matches last year's total

- Win #63 (Sept.2) avoids a 100-loss season

- Win #67 (Sept.12) 10-win improvement over 2010

Other possible milestones (all within reach, at least mathematically)
- Win #68, represents the team's best season under Huntington
- Win #73, avoids a 90-loss season (first time since 2004)
- Win #76, best season since the turn of the century
- Win #80, best season of the losing streak (Freak Show won 79 games in 1997)
- Win #81, breaks the losing streak (technically)
- Win #82, an actual winning season

Yeah it's been disappointing, after the start the Buccos made, but this is about as much progress as we could reasonably expect. Similar progress next year (while unlikely) would put us in the hunt. Here's to optimism.

Win #68 last night marks the best season during the Huntington regime. :cheer2:

I have adjusted the possible milestones list at the bottom to accommodate current reality:

- Win #63 (Sept.2) avoids a 100-loss season

- Win #67 (Sept.12) 10-win improvement over 2010

- Win #68 (Sept.15) best season under Huntington

Other possible milestones with 12 games to play:

- Win #72, 15-win improvement over 2010
- Win #73, avoids a 90-loss season (first time since 2004)
- Win #76, best season since the turn of the century
- Win #77, 20-win improvement over 2010
- Win #80, best season of the losing streak (Freak Show won 79 games in 1997)

A New Milestone

Per an Elias Sports Bureau note at ESPN.com, Pirates' win #70 last night breaks a streak of 6 consecutive seasons of less than 70 wins. We gotta celebrate every chance we get.

- Win #57 (Aug.15) matches last year's total

- Win #63 (Sept.2) avoids a 100-loss season

- Win #67 (Sept.12) 10-win improvement over 2010

- Win #68 (Sept.15) best season under Huntington

- Win #70 (Sept. 23) breaks streak of 6 straight seasons below 70 wins

The team stands at 70-87 with 5 games to play. Remaining possible milestones:

- Win #72, 15-win improvement over 2010

- Win #73, avoids a 90-loss season (first time since 2004)

That would be nice to see them get to 73.

One More Milestone Achieved

A win at Miller Park over the Brewers feels good. The milestones:

- Win #57 (Aug.15) matches last year's total

- Win #63 (Sept.2) avoids a 100-loss season

- Win #67 (Sept.12) 10-win improvement over 2010

- Win #68 (Sept.15) best season under Huntington

- Win #70 (Sept. 23) breaks streak of 6 straight seasons below 70 wins

- Win #72 (Sept. 26) 15-win improvement over 2010

The PIrates are 72-88 with 2 games to play against the Brewers. Will they reach the one remaining possible milestone?

- Win #73, avoids a 90-loss season (first time since 2004)

Right now, they're at the record I predicted for them at the start of the year, so I'm pretty pleased with their record right now, but that one extra win would make it all the sweeter. Especially against the Brewers.
