I'm not sure how much he actually showed up there...
Andre is going to do that to a whole bunch of DE's......
What's sad is that the dude is going to finally fulfill his potential and then become a FA.

He had a really good year last year. I think I read somehwere from the guy who does the AFCN coverage for ESPN, that he only gave up 2 sacks last year.
I think they'll keep him. Remember they have to spend the $$$ and they are a ton under the cap. Plus, they have invested in their tackles before (i.e. willie, Levi then Whitworth). I'm expecting big things out of Precious this year. I think he'll be one of the better RT's in the game.
Hard to really blame the Bengals for not extending him/picking up his option last year. Going into the year, the guy had been nothing short of a "bust". Based on the previous years and the outcome(s), there's probably not a team in the league that would have picked up his option and risk having to severly overpay him after watching him do what he did the first few years here.
Kudos for Smith for making up the ground, and proving everyone wrong. Now, he's got to go out and do it again this year if he wants to get "paid".

We had already severely overpaid him given his red flags coming out of college..... We went all in on his potential. Strange that we would do it once (when the investment was very high) and not a second time (when it wouldn't have cost as much and he could have been cut anyway). It's not like we were going to be against the cap by picking up the extension or having to cut him if he wasn't able to perform. Now we either have to rush a deal, compete in FA, or use the franchise tag....... To the best of my knowledge the tag does not differentiate between left and right tackles. If we want to keep Smith, we'll end up owing him top 5 LEFT TACKLE money.

I think part of not giving him the extension was to give him the kick in the ass that he needed to get his fat ass in shape and start performing. If they would've extended him at that time they'd be rewarding him for being an overpaid non-contributor. So maybe not getting the extension when it wasnt warranted provided a much needed wake up call for Smith. When it's all said and done I think he remains with the Bengals and will this time at least have earned his money.
