1/5 as in the NBA has a significantly less player "population" than the NFL or especially the MLB. I'm saying if you compared total arrests between the three sports the NBA would comfortably be in last.

but that would be stupid. If i live in a town of 40,000 people and 20,000 get arrested, would that make it not as bad as a city of 5 million people that has 100,000 arrests?

It's a negligible difference in percentage. You're comparing a 50% arrest rate with a 2% arrest rate.

not really. the NBA has only 14% more black people, but percentage of arrests that is 2.3 times higher. Its disproportionate.

in a book written in 2005, the author wrote that he sent in requests for police departments for background checks on all active NBA players.

completed a records check on 177 (42%) of the 417 non-foreign-born players listed in the NBA register. Results revealed that 71 (40%) of the 177 players researched had been arrested or otherwise recommended by police to prosecuting attorneys for indictment on serious crimes

Even if no other players but the 71 had ever been in trouble, that is still 17%. now if we multiply that number by 2.356 (177 * 2.356 = 417) then you would get 167 players out of 477, or 40% that have been in trouble with the law for serious crimes. thats quite a high number
