Maple Leafs forward Tim Connolly was placed on injured reserve on Wednesday, leaving the team with the maximum 23 players on the roster.

The team had to declare their opening night roster by 3pm et on Wednesday. Connolly was placed on IR retroactive to when the injury occurred.

Connolly, who is eligible to return as early as Saturday, has been slowed by an upper body injury he suffered when he fell in practice last week.

The injury-plagued Connolly, who was signed as a free agent this summer, has averaged less than 60 games per season over the last four years.
