I don't know who the poster is or where the poster is, but there is this rumor out there.
My opinion
This is for the new B1G TV contract negotiations. Delany wants Texas in the B1G and they are working the numbers to see if it is possible and what the payback to Texas would be since they have to pay to get out of the GoR in the Big12.
Although, I had heard other rumors about the GoR last year concerning some Texas demands about them. But I won't go into that. The little five of the Big 12 agreed to them, again.
The usual is happening; Texas is demanding all sorts of concessions, there is pushback from other schools. Texas does not have any big time allies in the B1G like they did in the Big 8 to help further the Texas agenda.
Delany just wants to see what the networks will pay if Texas joins. If the number is big enough, the other schools might get in line. But the number has to be near $50,000,000 per school is what I have heard. Obviously, that is the beginning negotiating number, ask high and negotiate down, so the probably number is $40,000,000 +. Anything under 40 million is a no go.
Yes, I know that was the projection for 2014, but it is no guarantee. With a Texas joining, it is a GUARANTEE.
For the record, I have stated that the next two teams would be Kansas and Virginia. Both are AAU, and adding Virginia further surrounds Washington DC with B1G schools.
Why Washington DC you ask? If you all don't realize how much money the CIC brings to each B1G school, you should look at that. Football TV payouts is a pittance compared to that HUGE cash cow. The University of Chicago(which is a member of the CIC) had just as much money from the CIC as the University of Texas gets from the federal coffers. A little over $300,000,000 in 2011. TV payouts is over $20,000,000 per school, CIC payouts is over $300,000,000 per school. Michigan received nearly $900,000,000 in 2011.
For me, I despise all nonsense about Texas. But Texas would be a big add to any conference. The trick is not to allow any other Texas schools with them so they don't create a voting bloc. Not sure if Ohio State's ego and Texas's ego would be a good fit, but it would be fun to watch.
