One day in, and it's already buh-bye Corey Hart! Good dude, once had talent, but his career is done. Money wasted that could have initially gone to Morales at the beginning of the season. Next.......

Hart was signed because Morales originally turned down a lot of money from the M's to come back. You could argue that pocketing that money rather than signing Hart would have been the wiser choice if they couldn't spend it on Morales, but somebody would have said that the M's should spend it on someone if they were willing to spend it on Morales.

On a related note, it is rumored that Morales would like to come back to play for the Mariners, but he'd like a multi-year deal. I can't imagine that'll happen.

I would like him to come back as well, but the offers that we have had on the table in the past have come and gone. Maybe something like a two year $12-$13 million dollar deal? Regardless, we need at least another bat on top of Morales; preferably a RF bat.

If Morales does want to come back he would need to take a deal similar to what Hart got last year. Based heavily off of incentives instead of guaranteed money. Like a 1 yr 5 million plus incentives to reach 7-8 million .

Or course Morales wants to come back. After this years performance theres not going to be a whole lot of interest in his .200 hitting out of shape behind.

No thanks to Morales. he didn't want to be here when he was a good hitter but once he sucked all sudden Seattle is his best friend? screw him. Its players who hit like him that are killing this team, players we need to get rid of.

Going into the season getting Hart was a good idea and it was worth the risk. Unfortunately the M's didn't get anything out of him.

As far as Morales is concerned, I don't have an issue with bringing him back. Although it does depend on several different factors. First of all he needs to realize his monetary value has dropped drastically and a multi year deal should not be in the cards, second is there better options on the free agent market/trade market (probably yes but at what cost?) and if he is brought back and continues to hit at a .200 level will there be a backup plan and will the Mariners organization be willing to actually cut ties with someone when they are not getting the job done? The Mariners have a history of giving player way to much of a leash when they are not performing.

The Mariners are going to need a DH and if they can get one like Morales that will allow Morrison to stay at 1B and allow Petersen to stay in AAA. I'd prefer to take another shot at Morales then Jack going and getting another low risk low reward guy to come in and DH.

Is it more a risk to retain Morales (let's say 2 years) or to give Montero another chance and put him a DH?

A. If I were the M's I wouldn't offer Kendrys more than a one year show me deal. He turned down his multi year deal then came back and hurt the team just as much as he helped.

B. I don't think Montero will be a Mariner come next season.

I'm actually are for just giving Montero the DH role going into the season with a put up or shut up season not just him struggle then send him down or giving him two games a week.

Ideally, I'd like for them to package Jackson with whomever to get a real bat for RF. Move Saunders to CF, leave Morrison at 1B then Montero at DH. That way it won't rush Peterson at 1B.

I can't imagine that Montero will be with the organization next season. I think there are too many strikes against him for the M's to consider keeping him, and I think the only reason why they might keep him and give him another chance is that they wouldn't want to admit that the trade was a failure by cutting him.

I completely agree, but I also think the Mariners need to back off on him as well if they can't find a deal nor deal him for a bag of balls. Who cares if he doesn't come to camp in the shape they wish him to, he's not going to need the stamina or conditioning that players are going to need because he will be a DH. Does anyone actually think Edgar could've been a 100 game a year player if he was a position player, hell no. It seems the organization has to cut him some slack, Jack put unrealistic expectations on him and expects him to reach those goals but gives up on him at the first signs of trouble but they gave Justin Smoak and Ackley 3 full years of not coming close to expectations.

It's not like the one year Montero was up that he was horrible, and from my recollection he wasn't worse than Ackley or Smoak except he hasn't had nearly the AB's and all the stupid work the organization has done to try and make him a viable catcher or 1B.

According to an interviw with Jack Z yesterday, Montero is in the Arizona Instructional League where team coaches and trainers are monitoring his work out regime and diet. I don't think the team would take that level of interest in him if they didn't see any value in him, either as a member of the 40-man roster or as a trade chip.

Having said that, Jack also repeated what he said last March when asked what expectations were for montero next year: "I have no expectationss for montero."

Nelson Cruz anyone? Sure he's gonna get paid, but lets not pretend were minnesota. This organization makes a ton of money. They need to provide Cano some protection. And they need to win now, before Canos contract becomes an albatross as he gets up in years and his skills diminish.

How about Jackson, Walker and Petersen to Miami for Stanton?

Wouldn't be enough for Stanton, I don't think.

I really don't think it is either, but I just saw it on the MLB network yesterday about the potential suitors and that was a package that whatever the analyst's name was put out there. It seems everytime they bring up Miami trading him the Mariners get brought up and I really don't see how it is possible, I love Stanton but you can't give up Paxton and Walker, it has to be either or IMO.

I don't know Miami's situation but it doesn't seem like a bad deal. But I also think the A's-Cubs deal kind of threw a monkey wrench in compensation packages.

If the only pro position player we're offering is Jackson, I think it would have to be supplemented with more than a AA prospect and an unproven, inexperienced pitcher with the perceived mechanical issues Walker has had since his rather large injury.

If Miami tries to move him this winter, I think they'll be able to get another team to give up a lot more. If they wait until the trade deadline next year, who knows.
