The Flyers aren't going to waive Gags. If someone picks him up, the Flyers have to take 1/2 of the salary.

They'll trade him for picks...just not to anyone in the division.

Flyers would not leave Gagne in the minors, they would definitely put him on re-entry waivers.

In either case, I just don't see the Flyers waiving him to go to the minors. Chances are someone WILL bite. if not now, someone can get hurt during the preseason and a trade can happen.

i just did the numbers. i signed powe for the same price and put nodl and testwuide as healthy scratches just for their cap numbers. also i had 7 defensemen. we are 1 mil under the cap without gagne. not enough for a goalie.

Scott, I ran the numbers on CapGeek.com also. I subtracted Gagne and Boucher and added Carcillo ($1.3), Powe ($750k) and Turco ($2.5) and kept Cote. We need 23 players to count towards the cap and I had 14 forwards, 7 defenseman and 2 goalies and was $200k under the cap. My lines would be

Carter - Richards - Zherdev
Hartnell - Briere - Leine
Jvr - Giroux - Carcillo
Shelley - Betts - Lappy
Powe - Cote

Pronger-Carle
Timonen - Coburn
Meszaros - O"Donnell
Bartulis

Turco - Leighton

You can always flip Giroux and Carter and sign an older wing for $1.3 in place of Carcillo or play Testwuide, Nodl, Maroon or Legein and create another $400-700k in cap space.

Another idea would be to sign Asham at $900k vs. Carcillo. 3rd line is
Jvr -Giroux -Asham. We then have $600k in cap space.

I wonder if Guerin would take $1.3 to play on the Flyers. He played for $2 million last year and is coming off a 21 goal season. He is still very tough and would fill the Asham roll and add about 10 more goals.

i would not really want to be that close to the cap. also, cote is useless.
