At least we got 2 men in the 3rd round....shock to see Isner gone but hey if one of the 2 is able to make it to week 2, I would consider the French a success for our men

Sort of OT, but between 2011 - 2013, I liked Isner's matches at the FO.

* 2011: Isner vs. Nadal: First player to take Nadal to 5 sets at the FO.

* 2012: A marathon 18-16 5th set against Paul Henry Mathieu

* 2013: A 10-8 5th set. During the 4th set tiebreak, it was crazy how Isner saved 9 match points, before eventually winning the tiebreak and winning the 4th set.

Sure, Isner lost all 3 of those, but they were still memorable and fun to watch.

Can't wait for Monfils/Fed tomorrow.

I got Fed in 4

I am rooting for Jack Sock, our last man standing even though odds are against him regarding Nadal. Well this is tennis, anything can happen. Sometimes it is okay to believe in miracles.

That was a bad call against Azarenka at the 2nd of the 2nd set.

I screamed in disbelief when Azarenka hit that forehand long at 2-3 in the 3rd set, to lose the game.

Azarenka hit a lot of balls in the net.

Overall, it was a good match.

But with Azarenka in this matchup vs. Serena, I think it's more about her consistency, confidence, than her talent. She's had a lot of matches go the distance against Serena, that she hasn't won.

Murray would get a lot of breaks against Krygios, and then lose the next game.

Eventually though, he moved Krygios around a lot.

The highlight of the tourney through Friday morning was the 1st set between Kuznetsova and Schiavone. Especially that tiebreaker.

Neither player is consistently great or dangerous at serving, but they have good shotmaking ability.

They ended up playing another long one, just like their 4+ hour 2011 AO match. Schiavone won this one again in 3 sets, 3+ hours.

It was a bad call but it wasn't the end of the world. It isn't like it was game point for Azarenka there. It was actually game point for Serena so even if the ump made the correct call and gave Victoria the point, we would have just been at deuce again. Azarenka was going crazy acting like it cost her that game when it reality it did not. No guarantee she win the game if the correct call was made

Normally Tsonga-Berdych would be must-see.

But I'd rather watch Monfils-FED and Wawrinka-Simon tomorrow.

Agree. Azarenka wasn't playing that well overall either at that point.

She got a little bit emotional at the point and became an emotional basket case then. But as she said in the presser it was a bullshit call and we agree, but not the most important one. These things do happen in tennis. Bring back instant replay to the FO and all this nonsense ends. In the end it was more of Serena waking up and playing to her talent level rather than Vika imploding about a point.

Sad thing for Vika is that initially she responded well to the call in terms of how she played in the first few games after the call. Serena held serve to win the 2nd but then Vika won the opening 2 games of the 3rd and all just went downhill after that.

Berdych putting up a fight finally.

5-5 in the 3rd.

Johnny Mac in the meantime is bitching about Berdych being ranked ahead of Rafa

Still comical to me that the French is the only GS that doesn't either have a retractable roof court or lights

Tsonga collapse is underway.

Dropped serve while serving for the match in the 3rd and now he is down a break in the 4th.

Doesn't look like Fed/Monfils will play today. I'm pretty disappointed

5 Frenchies left in the round of 16.

Sock also in round of 16 for doubles with Pospisil.

Impressive that Tsonga did that fold like a cheap tent down 3-1 and break point in the 4th.

Fed and Monfils up next until about 3 PM EST or a little after

Yeah, I heard that.

Johnny Mac should get over it.

In the 2013 FO, Monfils was coming off a long injury, so he was unranked. He played Berdych in the 1st round, and it was a terrific 5 set match. I don't remember Johnny Mac complaining then, and it's the same situation, where a player is not ranked very high for various reasons. It happens. Normally Monfils - Berdych would be a QF or SF, but here it was in the 1st round. Happens all the time.

1 set a piece. Will continue tomorrow morning

Heading into the match, FED was 3-0 against Monfils at the FO.

But Monfils had won the last 2 matches, in Monte Carlo, and during the Davis Cup Finals at Roland Garros.

FED won the 1st set today.

Monfils was up a break in the 2nd, but FED broke back late in the 2nd. But then Monfils broke again, to win the 2nd set.

Match is suspended due to darkness, will resume tomorrow.

Wawrinka is through to the QF, he will play the winner of FED - Monfils.

Once the USO gets its roof, and whenever Roland Garros finishes its roof, the Grand Slam season will be even more enjoyable. Wish it was happening sooner though.
