Deion Branch - WR - Patriots Patriots agreed to terms with Deion Branch on a one-year contract.
Branch drew no reported interest on the free agent market. Other teams know his greatest value is his mind meld with Tom Brady, always being where he's supposed to be in the Patriots offense. No longer separating from defenders, Branch cleared 50 receiving yards just once in the Pats' final seven games of 2011. Following the additions of Brandon Lloyd, Donte' Stallworth, and Anthony Gonzalez, Branch may not be guaranteed a roster spot at age 33.

Brandon Jacobs - RB - Giants According to the New York Daily News, there is still a "chance" free agent Brandon Jacobs will return to the Giants.
Jacobs wants to see what else is out there before signing on a lesser deal in New York. With Michael Bush and BenJarvus Green-Ellis off the market, the list of available backs includes Jacobs, Kevin Smith, Cedric Benson, Joseph Addai, Ryan Grant, Ronnie Brown, Justin Forsett and Tim Hightower.

Drew Stanton - QB - Jets The Associated Press reports the Jets are now trying to trade QB Drew Stanton after acquiring Tim Tebow from the Broncos.
Stanton just a signed a reasonable one-year, $1.25 million deal. The Jets have to hope that a team in need of a quality backup, such as the Rams, Raiders or Packers prefers Stanton to the mediocre veteran options still available. The best they can hope for is a late-round pick. Stanton chose the Jets over the Bucs and Chiefs, who went on to sign Dan Orlovsky and Brady Quinn respectively.

Chris Carr - DB - Ravens Free agent CB Chris Carr will visit the Chiefs and Vikings.
Both teams were connected to top corners early in free agency, only to strike out. A competent starter with the Ravens two years ago, Carr would play in nickel and dime packages in either city.

Mike Pollak - G - Panthers Panthers reportedly signed G/C Mike Pollak, formerly of the Colts.
The 2008 second-rounder has started 41 of 58 games the past four years, losing his job to former Arena Leaguer Kyle DeVan in 2009 and Jeff Linkenbach at mid-season last year. Pollak has been adequate as a pass blocker but ineffective as a run blocker in his four-year career. He could compete for the left guard vacancy created by Travelle Wharton's release.

I don't mind kicking the tires on him to see if he's committed to football.

You never know what being a inches away from being out of the league can do to one's motivation.

But I would only sign him to a one year deal at minimum with maybe some incentives thrown in and make it clear to him that if he's not fully on board with keeping in shape and working we'll cut him asap.

Panthers trade Mike Goodson to Raiders for Bruce Campbell

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 30, 2012, 3:50 PM EDT

AP
Today’s NFL transactions include a rare straight-up player-for-player trade.

The Panthers have announced that they traded running back Mike Goodson to the Raiders for offensive lineman Bruce Campbell, a trade that Panthers G.M. Marty Hurney said makes sense for both team’s depth charts.

“Mike is a talented player who gave us three good years, but our depth at running back allowed us to make this move,” Hurney said.

As for Campbell, Hurney likes his athletic ability and the flexibility he brings to the offensive line.

“We think Bruce Campbell is a very young, talented offensive lineman who has all the physical qualities to play in this League,” Hurney said. “He played guard his first two seasons with the Raiders, but we will look at moving him to tackle.”

Goodson showed some promise as an offensive playmaker in 2010, carrying 103 times for 452 yards and adding 40 catches for 310 yards. But in 2011 Goodson got on the field for only four games, and never touched the ball. Campbell has played in 14 games without any starts since the Raiders drafted him in 2010.

CINCINNATI -- Linebacker Manny Lawson has decided to stay with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The unrestricted free agent agreed to a new contract Friday. Lawson started 16 games for Cincinnati last season, his first with the Bengals. He had 78 tackles and 1½ sacks.

Lawson spent his first five seasons in the NFL with San Francisco, which made him a first-round pick in 2006. He has started 71 games during his career.

His head, mouth, decision making and maturity all are very scary to become involved with but I really hope they pass on him. I was upset they already signed Steve Smith.

Jim Thomas:

Free-agent wide receiver Jerome Simpson (Bengals) is scheduled to arrive in St. Louis tonight for visit with Rams. He will work out Weds.
