Homer I know we need some space to sign a goalie but c'mon man. I understand in the cap era these kind of moves need to be made from time to time. I just have a horrible feeling that trading Gags will come back to bite us in the ass.

I'm with PhillyPhaithful. There is nobody on the team I consider untouchable. There are those who I view as unlikely to get enough compensation in return for (Giroux, Pronger), there are those who I don't think we can move (Briere), and there are those who I would prefer to stay (Gagne, Leino), but if you can make moves that clearly make your team better, you owe it to the franchise and the fans to do so.

The question arises - what about when it isn't clear that it makes your team better.

Hartnell is not as movable as gagne, has a NTC as well, and won't bring in a big enough return

so what. that is because he is not as good. all we need is the cap space if we trade hartnell. if we trade gagne we are trading our best winger so we have to replace him with someone who is making at least 2 mil. so again, that does not even take as much money off the cap as gagne makes.

if we trade gagne we need a 2 mil a year guy at least. so that is 3.25 mil in space.

if we trade hartnell for some picks or a prospect then we do not really have to replace him on our roster with anyone great. so without hartnell and shelley we would save 5.3 mil.

Whatever team that wants Gagne in return for whatever we are asking for, MUST be giving up something of very high value <slash> skill <slash> promising future, right??

More valuable than what they consider Hartnell's value to be worth. Otherwise, I would assume Homer would be asking him to waive his NTC instead because giving up fan favorite Gagne.

There's just no way moving him can be high up on Holmgrens' "to get rid of" list unless it's extremely conditional and important, right??

he has a slightly smaller cap hit than gagne so that does make a lot of sense. i doubt we could upgrade our goaltending much though.

i have heard simmonds and a pick as a suggestion.
