I am fully aware a DE is about more than sacks. They don't even have regular statistics for an OL so they are too.
As highly touted as Williams was, yes he was lackluster in college. On some people's boards, Williams was #1...on others he was not. Playing opposite Muhammed Wilkerson, with Todd Bowles as your coach, 3 sacks is very unimpressive.
Some OT can play inside. It is a very different position outside and frequently the guys that excel at OT are too soft for the interior. Scherff was drafted as an OL. He can play both T and G. I have already explained who he beat out for the job and won't do it again.
Tell me about the Monty comment. Please. I am not saying he was great but he did play near a pro bowl level for a couple years. What did we have at guard to be proud of? It is nowhere close to just being our center that caused all those problems.
Tell us again how great Kojo was. Explain how we should have counted on him when he couldn't beat out Long. Because that argument makes sense.
While I agree Scherff ended up (most likely) the right pick I don't think there's much bad to be said about Williams. Keep in mind he was rotating playing time with two better players.
