There'll always be another guy like Hoyer or Kessler or Brissett that you can sign for a couple million bucks to be a veteran clipboard caddy. Maybe Stidham himself turns out to be that type of player as this season plays out and them you get a new 1 next year and send him back to being the 2 for the last two years of his rookie deal

Agreed but Hoyer won't be in the league long and at best is a marginal back up

Hoyer is neither our QB nor a backup. He is a mentor for Stidham. If he has to backup for more than a game , we are screwed.

If Stidham doesn't work out, call in Newton. He's toast but at least he won't steal the crablegs.....

Finding a backup/scout QB won't be a problem. Plenty of serviceable UDFs and seasoned vets out there for that purpose.

A UDF? We could have waited on a K or second TE and gotten a decent rookie. We already have long in the tooth with Hoyer

Question Of The Day:

How many chili cheese dogs can you eat in one sitting?

Question Of The Day: What food did mom make you eat as a kid that you hated?

Yellow Squash still cannot eat that mess

Ma Racer was an awesome cook and only made a couple of dishes that I hated. Liver and onions and creamed asparagus on toast :puke:

Fortunately, I wasn't forced to eat those meals. I don't like beans either so Ma would cook an extra pack of franks and let me eat the hotdogs and some brown bread out of the can.

You have no teeth?

Beans are gross. Put them on my food and I'll kill you.

I wasn't making my comment to justify our draft selections, though I can see why you might think I had. My position is they are high on Stidham and backup quality guys can be had in several places.

Solid. Draft for the future, not immediate needs.
Plenty of cap space to sign flashy FA's next year to put the icing on the cake where needed.
No immediate needs? I see all three first defensive picks starting or playing significant time as well as at least on TE and the kicker.

I agree they are high on Stidham but he is still unproven, my train of thought was Hoyer's value is very Mehhhh at best and if Stidham does not pan out it would have been nice to have a QB in training. But what is done, is done I accept it and move on.

SIDE NOTE: It will be very interesting to see how Josh M adjusts the offense to suit Stidhams strengths.

I would hope that the requirement that the receivers make all kinds of adjustments in their routes based on their reads of the defense will be eliminated or scaled back. Forcing that when you have Brady as your QB worked really well for many years but as we saw in the last couple seasons with all of the young receivers it appeared to have run its course.

Draw up some plays, have the receivers run the routes and and coach up Stidham to go through his progressions quickly and throw it to the open man and I'll like their chances.

I DVR'd the December 2010 Packers @ Patriots game last night. Watched it this morning. Rogers was out of the game because he'd had 2 concussions in the previous two weeks. The back up was Matt Flynn and he gave the Patriots fits.

Rookies on the Patriots that year were Cornerback Devin McCourty and Tight Ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski. They also had a second year Quarterback/Punt Returner Julian Aidlemin. I was in hysterics listening to Sunday Night Football announcers Al Michaels (play-by-play), Cris Collinsworth totally screw up Edelman's name. The they questioned what the Patriots would ever do "with the guy."

Also got reminded why I hated watching Brandon Merriweather play football. He totally wiped out McCourty on a pass that McCourty would have intercepted and instead went for a TD.

This was the game where OG Dan Connelly caught a kickoff and returned it 63 yeards to the Packer 4 yard line and broke the all time record for a kickoff return by an OL. He sat out the entire second half. He was a back uop for Steven Moore who had a sprained ankle. Moore never got his job back.

Final score was 31-27 and a nailbiter until Flynn screwed up on the final play. He had 31 seconds and was on the Patriots 36. He was trying to talk to everyone and had no time outs. With 9 seconds he got the snap on 4th and 11 and the Patriots blitzed and got him and he fumbled with no time on the clock and the Pats recovered.

I'd forgotten how great Hernandez was. Incredible hands and leg strength. Scored two TDs in this game and Gronk was nothing but a blocker.

Brady's Main WR's were Branch and Welker.

Keep your eyes out for the NBC Sports channel (865 on Comcast). They're showing some great old stuff.
