Obama says if you want a team in dc you must change your name .. king obama is way out of line lol what a joke
It may not be Obama himself making the statement, but it most definitely reflects his views. If Jewell really was saying something out of line with his thinking on a pretty controversial issue like the REDSKINS name, you can be sure that he'd correct her on it.
Whatever the case may be, screw anyone who doesn't want to accommodate us. Virginia's Democratic Governor has more than laid out the welcome mat, and that's where we should be.
Hail to the REDSKINS!

Rephrase........accommodate us on our terms or not at all, I'm guessing that contractual agreements just aren't what they once were huh? In the end if Snyder wants his team in DC proper, some sort of compromise will make that possible. If the name change is a deal breaker then he won't get a deal anywhere where there are objections without agreeable terms.
QUOTE="SoCalWizFan, post: 6844943, member: 5399"]Why would Snyder care that much about moving the team to DC? Tradition? Big deal - the only real tradition that matters is winning & that is the basic reason why the RFK teams were fondly remembered - not because of RFK which in many ways was a dump.
Again - No. Virginia is where the training facility is located & where many of the players and coaches live. More important probably the majority of the fan base lives in Virginia. No need for the Redskins to compromise - they will just tell DC to get lost & move on to another location in Virginia or Maryland. No way will the name be a deal breaker in Virginia.
BTW - the Redskins current lease at FedEx still has 12 years remaining on it.
There are many reasons beyond tradition why Snyder would want his team in the city. Among them are the gentrified demographic changes that are currently ongoing bringing many of those fans here and solving any transportation issues. Another is his dream to bring the Olympic games here. Selling Northern Virginia to the Olympic decision makers is a hellava lot harder than DC (Nation's Capital) That's just two, there are many others, but like you've stated that's still some time away unless he buys out of his current contract.
Snyder is a whore for the economics of football and the Redskins. But one thing he won't bend on is the team name. As much as I have issues with Dan, thank God for him on that. The Redskins are going to make him plenty of money no matter what. And it's looking like Virginia is going to provide him the best option for doing so. Whether that's in Loudoun County or elsewhere, some lucky city in the Old Dominion is going to turn up gangbusters when Snyder ultimately decides to relocate the team there. Hell, why not Richmond? It would be the biggest EFF YOU to the name change proponents. Indeed, not only would the Redskins get to keep their name, they'd do it in the former capital of the Confederacy. It's really refreshing to see power brokers in Virginia, no matter what their political stripes are, welcoming the Redskins (back home).
Funny that you see him as an economic whore and inflexible on an issue that would surely make him Billions more if he caved to it.
Hardly billions more. And you can look at his 'inflexible' stance in a pro-economic angle: sticking by his guns will galvanize the Redskins fan base, who have been understandably reticent to pay for Redskins merchandise given the crap product that's been put on the field as of late. Setting that aside, there are things more important than money. And this is one of them.
If this team is successful again in the next few years I truly believe that Redskins merchandise sales will go through the roof. It is actually the opposite of the claims of many protesters. I run into many people who basically state that they are not Redskins fans yet they 100% support not changing the name & respect the stance. Whether right or wrong there are tons of people in this camp.
I don't think Snyder nor his kids or grandkids ever have to worry about money.
