SAN FRANCISCO --RHP Logan Verrett has been demoted to clear the roster spot for the activation of Jenrry Mejia from an 80-game PED suspension.

Verrett, 25, tossed three scoreless innings on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers to earn his first professional save.

He had a 0.73 ERA in 12 innings spanning six relief appearances with the Mets this season. He allowed only four hits and four walks (two intentional).

Verrett, a Rule 5 pick in December, opened the season with the Texas Rangers before being returned to the Mets.

"He pitched great," manager Terry Collins said. "Unfortunately there are options that some players have and options guys don't have. Sometimes those guys [with options], they're the ones that have to go. It was hard because Logan has pitched very, very well."

The Mets transferred reliever Buddy Carlyle to the 60-day disabled list to free a 40-man roster spot for Mejia's activation.

That lineup is frightening (not in the 27 Yankees sort of way).

7th inning stretch by the bay....Mets trail 3-0.
Looks like Colon will still be stuck on the 9 wins.
Well....all I can say is I'm happy I didn't choose to go to tonight's Mets fail of a game.
I am going to the day game tomorrow. deGrom is pitching and I sure hope they decide to show up with their bats.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Matt Cain limited the New York Mets to two hits in six scoreless innings in his second start of the season and the San Francisco Giants snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 3-0 win Tuesday at AT&T Park.

Kevin Plawecki had a one-out double in the third and Curtis Granderson andRuben Tejada walked with two outs, but the Mets left the bases loaded that frame when Daniel Murphy struck out.

The Mets' second hit came on a leadoff triple in the sixth by Granderson. However, right fielder Hunter Pence lunged in foul territory to catch Tejada's fly ball. Pence then sprung to his feet and fired to the plate to retire Granderson tagging to keep the Mets off the scoreboard.

Murphy finished 0-for-4 with an error. He batted as the tying run in the eighth and grounded into an inning-ending fielder's choice.

Pence, who eats pizza with a fork, had two RBIs in his first game since June 2. He had been on the disabled list with left wrist tenditinis.

The Giants loaded the bases with none out in the third inning against Bartolo Colon on a trickler, a bloop and then an error by Murphy at third base. Pence followed with a run-scoring fielder's choice. Brandon Crawford added a sacrifice fly. The lead swelled to 3-0 in the fifth on consecutive singles by Joe Panik, Matt Duffy and Pence.

Colon allowed three runs (two earned) on 10 hits in six innings. He threw 88 pitches (64 strikes).

Plawecki finished with two doubles.

What's next: All-Star Jacob deGrom (8-6, 2.30 ERA) opposes right-handerJake Peavy (0-3, 6.43) in Wednesday's 3:45 p.m. ET rubber game.

Jake deGreat was deGrominant against deGiants.

Mets win the rubber game 4-1. There were lots of Mets fans in the ball park today.
The weather was overcast, misty and breezy..but the sun broke through around the 5th inning.
Soup went deep (2 run bomb in the 9th)...and Lagares made an awesome catch in CF to quell a possible SF rally in the 3rd.
Overall a nice day at the yard...:suds:

Amazin's finished the road trip 4-2, and have Thursday off before closing the 1st half at home this weekend against Arizona, before the all star break.

DeGrom pitches 8 shutout innings, Mets beat Giants 4-1
