QB is not our problem. Fuck I'm sick of the Jay talk.
Let's talk Mel Tucker and our fabulous D.
Mel proved can he game plan to stop NO ONE. My biggest concern going forward.
It started week 1 . AJ Green Cincy's biggest threat. Most competent DCs would find a way to limit him. Mel chooses to run our regular 2 deep . And AJ has a big game.
NO game . Graham again the biggest threat. Heard many ways of shutting him down after the game. Dan Hampton ex Bear and annalist says, You have jam these type of players at the line. The Bears did not. NE shuts down Graham by putting their best corner back on him (Talib ?) and had him play physical at the line.
I could go on and on.
But week 17 . Who is GB's biggest play maker ? Jordy Nelson. Again no game plan for him. Yeah, Cobb had 2 TDs. But Nelson killed us.

Just wondering if it's the players or the coach that made made us 1 of the worst ever run Ds.
I would usually put it on the players. But after hearing his plan of attacking Cincy's O I've had my doubts since. He ( Dalton) gets rid of the ball quickly, don't rush the QB, Just protect your passing lanes. That's total Bullshit. You have 1 of the pass rushing lines in the NFL , And you tell them that ?
Just to add . If you plan to stop a top receiver the D-line usually doesn't figure in that much. Yes pressure helps . But setting up coverage is more important.
Just think he has done a horeshit job ,of setting up coverage for my Bears.

I wasn't necessarily on the "Fire Tucker" wagon prior to this game, but that was absurd yesterday. If the mistakes made weren't so directly correlating with coaching, I wouldn't be so critical. There's very little a coach can do about not having any talent. However, the big ones all DIRECTLY correlate with coaching.

I hate making useless comments like this, but it's too easy. That live ball would have NEVER been neglected to be picked up by a Lovie Smith coached defense. NEVER... Not a chance. Under Smith, this defense would pickup a ball anytime it was on the ground, no matter how obviously incomplete it was. They'd go way out of their way to pickup clearly dead balls and run with them. The ref would blow the whistle 5 or 6 times to blow the play dead. It honestly got annoying. So, that is absolutely a reflection of coaching. I'm shocked Briggs was one of the guys standing around with his dick in his hand. I wouldn't have expected that, he's a leader. Just shows that the defense has really lost a lot of the pride that they used to take in their work.

On the last play, well... that coverage was completely busted. I honestly can't come to a solid conclusion as to what they were trying to do in the defensive backfield.

I've watched the play literally a hundred times at this point. I honestly can't see where they expected that to work. With our safeties, you can't get away with a blitz like that against four wide. I suppose Tucker was saving that blitz package for a key moment in the game, and thought it was a good bet. Something he saw on film, I would assume. They get a good rush on Rodgers. Peppers just came in a bit out of control.

Although, like I said have no idea what the hell they were trying to do in the secondary, because both safeties just let guys go by them. To me, initially it looks like they were trying to hide the blitz. Frey didn't show blitz until the last moment, and Wright dropped back as a lone safety in the defensive backfield in kind of a cover one look. Bumping over Conte. I think Conte was confused as to what his assignment was. Especially when they realized they had a big matchup problem against the trips split out to the left. Major then inexplicably comes up to play Jordy. Conte is just lost, unsurprisingly. Even if he opens up his hips and runs with Cobb, he really has next to no chance at sticking with him. I think it was just an "oh shit" moment, and with no one experienced in the secondary, everyone panicked. Not uncommon for a poorly coached defense.

The secondary shit the bed on the games biggest play. They look lost. Wright and Conte both looked like they wanted to check out of what they were in, but didn't know what the hell to do. That's about as big of a mark against the DC as you can give.

The only thing I liked that Tucker did, that was different than Lovie. Was that he played the WR's a lot tighter. Preventing a lot of those hot reads and quick passes GB loves to throw so much. Other than that, a total failure yesterday by him.

We didn't fire him today though... so...

As far as I'm concerned . That 4th & 7 is all on Conte. He said ( according to other DBs, said that he didn't get the call) . To me that is Bullshit. Any player can call a TO . Biggest play of the game, you don't know what D is called? I think I'd call a TO. But everybody is playing man coverage . And this fool is playing a zone. With his fellow safety lining up right next to him. Funny he didn't answer any post game questions from the press.

I seem to recall the great Lovie Smith refusing to change his game plan against Carolina and Steve Smith. He freaking torched the defense IN A PLAYOFF GAME. ......and Lovie stood pat.

Really don't give a shit about GB.
As a Bear fan, I knew Lacey & Nelson were our biggest concerns. A double team on Nelson would have been appreciated by this Bear fan. Seems most successful Ds take away the oppositions biggest threat. Mel hasn't done that once this year.

Did the Bears fix the problems on D this offseason? Too early to tell, but at least they made some moves in the right direction.

I wouldnt go as far as to say they fixed it, but they addressed it. Much like they addressed our biggest weakness for the last 10 years in the O line the first year. They are making move toward repairs, and it is a breathe of fresh air IMO

That's the one thing you have to hand to Emery. JA was so frustrating in the fact that it felt like he never addressed pressing issues. We needed WR's, he went out and got Marty Booker's, tried to patch things up with Devin Aromashodu's, and moved Devin Hester to WR as an attempt to patchwork. We needed offensive lineman, he drafted bust after bust…

Emery goes out and gets what he needs. He does what he has to do to get the guys in here that he needs.
