Rosters set for 'I-5 Series': Gabe Kapler and Dave Roberts will pick lineups

Just ran across this. Seems the SF Chronicle and LA Times are sponsoring an imaginary series between all time great northern vs southern cal players. Geographi criteria is where the players spent their formative years (not based on birth place or where they played professionally) and they are using the best year of each player.

Teams were voted on last week by fans (I missed this) and the final roster was chosen today by Kapler for the north and Roberts for the south. Not sure how the simulation will be handled, but Jon Miller will announce/commentate. Games will be 'played' on May 26, best of 7. DH in play. I assume there will be a web/pod cast, but I haven't found it. Anyway.....rosters

Game 2: Norcal take 2:0 series lead. Seaver's complete game 3 hitter bests Walter Johnson / Bret Saberhagen

Bonds goes deep twice (again), expect some chin music in game 3. Henderson-Bonds perhaps the best leadoff duo ever?

Game 3 Friday @ the Big A

Ricky/Bonds is simply unfair. Then having DiMaggio and Frank hitting them in? Fuggetaboutit.

But having 2 of the 4 best OFers in the history of the game at the top of the order is nice.

Wonder why they didn't score them that way? All boxscores I've seen specifically mark them as PH and then list a position if they remained in the game.
If it is an automated box from some sim software, the logic is very basic. It will not recognize the difference between a player brought in as purely a PH and a player coming in as a replacement catcher.

Minute difference, but one that sim software can rarely pick up on (from my experience using different games for baseball simming)

Lefty O'Doul is a shitty choice, he hit .453 in the bizarre lefty hitter's paradise that was the Baker Bowl in what was an all around huge hitter's year. He was a good hitter, but far from a great one. Chuck Klein with a lot less longevity, except Chuck was a better fielder and athlete.

the way they are running this sim is they take the player's best year, in this case it was '29 for o'doul. .398 ba, runner up to hornsbys' mvp. rosters were voted by the fans, and o'doul had a pretty well known namesake bar here which couldn't hurt

Captain Hook pitched 1.2 innings and didn't give up a home run? Something is seriously fishy about their sim software.
I guess the computer didn't think much of the Big Train pitching outside of Griffith Stadium in whatever normalized environment they chose....he only gave 97 HRs in 802 appearances in his long career.

SoCal rebounds in Game3: Chavez Ravine, knocking CCSabathia out in the 1st inning, 5 runs as Mcgwire and Fred Lynn go deep. Gomez 6.1 scoreless innings to finish. Hard to see CC getting the start over Stewart who's on tap to Game 4 at the Big A

Palmer goes 6.1 with 2 earned runs....

Bonds facing Fingers, NorCal down 6:2 with bases loaded... Barry pops out to 1st and that's your final....

NorCal bests SoCal thx to Rickie Henderson's 2 run triple bringing in McGee and Rollins to tie the game followed by DiMaggios sacrifice.

McGwire had a pair of 2 run homers off Dave Stewart. Henderson a solo opposite field dinger. Bonds moved to clean-up, goes 2 for 3, scoring twice after a 3bagger and another solo.

Eck finishes strong striking out Ted Williams

Onto Petco for the battle of the Johnsons, Walter and Randy

SoCal rides McGwire to bring the series to 3:2, 2 run triple in the 7th and a walk off for the win. HR by Jackie Robinson (lead off) and McGwire (2), Frank Robinson, Caminiti, Joe Cronin.

Randy Johnson 1 batter too many (McGwire) in the 6th turns the ball over to a faltering Righetti. Fingers closes it out for the W.

Onto pre-Mt. Davis Oakland for the 6th game, Lefty Gomez v. Jim Palmer

This is the box score of Game 5.
