Remember the preseason conversations in here as to whether or not Pace made the correct call in not tendering a contract for Cam? Did he make the right decision....by not signing him did he then have to use a high pick on a WR when it otherwise could have been used on another position......would Cam have the kind of season with the Saints that would make Pace look like a fool.......stuff like that. Well, if you've forgotten all that, NBC Sports Chicago addressed much of it in the linked article.

Re-visiting the Cam Meredith decision

Bottom line: Pace made the right call.

Yup. Pace and our doctors knew the deal. He would never be the same. It's a shame... but I'm glad we did what we did.

Pace caught shit for the move... a lot of it.

I have to confess I was somewhat on the shit-giving fence myself. While I trusted that Pace and the Bears medical staff knew more than us schlepps, I still said that I would reserve judgment until I saw how the season played out. If Meredith proved to be a worthy investment for the Saints, even Miller's development notwithstanding, I'm fairly certain I would have labeled this a bad move on Pace's part. Well let's just say that it has been playing out very much in his favor. He made the right call.

Remember when @noonthirtyjoe flipped shit about us not resigning cam. He said we were going back to being the worst receiving Corp in the league. We haven’t been the best, but we aren’t near the worst either.

I wasn't gonna bring all that up - I like Nooner. But yeah... there were a lot of things from that thread which stand-out.

For instance, Gabriel is our leading receiver. Pacing for nearly 900 yards. He's been our most reliable receiver, IMO. Noon was also saying he was a waste of a signing and nothing but a gadget/gimmick who wouldn't really contribute.

Good thing you were able to predict that we would land Robinson, Gabriel and Burton and also move up in the draft to get Miller, huh?

Like it's some weird thing to think twice about the Meredith situation at the time, when there was absolutely nothing else in the cupboard. And also like it's some big thing to "go out on a limb", to predict that an undrafted FA QB, would not be a big deal to let walk, particularly if they wanted too much money. Great prognostication Nostradumbass.

Nobody was crowning him king of all WRs. It was merely a price for potential situation. If they could've kept him for cheap(health, obviously the main factor, which no one outside of Halas Hall really knew), then sure...why not? What fan wouldn't love to see a homegrown nobody find success?

What the Bears did at the receiver position in the offseason was impressive, and not something anyone could've predicted.

Stop being an obnoxious cunt. It's stale.

Umm yes I did know the Bears would sign Robinson, Gabriel and Burton because they were signed in March BEFORE the Saints signed Meredith in April dumbass.

All I hear is excuses after dumbass excuses for making dumbass comments for an average dime a dozen WR that once again was overrated by a top tier dumbass Bear fan. Not signing the often injured Meredith was the right move regardless of who we picked up in the offseason anyway you dufuss. Meredith's proclivity to getting injured was questioned by these dumbass fans back when, to which at the time i responded "the bears would know more about Meredith's health status than anyone here".

I mean you are just the king of dumb.

End of thread.

I still think we fkd up not resigning Cam. He wont be fully healthy for a year yet. Good cheap young WR. And Gabriel surprised me altho I still think he kinda sucks and is a one trick poney that is over paid. It may seem I was wrong right now but that will change.

PS I also still think we overpaid big on Burton. All these deals will be more clear with time. If you look right now it seems like we did the right things but will it feel that way in 2 years?

If you would have made this same statement, but inserted Alan Robinson instead, I might have concurred. But Burton has been playing very well for the Bears.

I like Burton too, but 8 mil per year? Do you feel he is worth that?

Not stubborn, just not foolish enough to pretend anything has been settled yet. In 2 years I will be right and I have no doubts about that. You'll catch up one day.

I think he's like the 8th highest paid, and ranks around the top ten in every category, including tied for 3rd in TDs, for what that's worth:noidea:

AR just like Meridith is a year away from knowing if we did good or not. We knew going in AR was not gonna be 100% this season and same with Cam.

Cool that makes me feel a little better. Like the guy, thought 8 was high. Think 5 would have been plenty.
