Are people that hate Pink Floyd allowed out in the open now? It is not that one song for me, I think the band is terrible.
I think it depends on what level you put them on. They don't have as many good songs as say the Rolling Stones but they have about a dozen that Id consider classics or really good. Generally if you're a fan of progressive songs or concept albums or progressive albums then you get Pink Floyd.I definitely dont hate Pink Floyd but Im not sure I get why theyre so big. They have a couple great songs but not that many good songs IMO.
I say this understanding that they are fantastic musicians. That is the first argument I get: "Better musicians then you are" which is just a terrible argument, of course they are better musicians, does not mean they make good music.
They are the Jamal Crawford of bands.

I also think Dark Side of the Moon was on the Billboard charts for like 30+years straight so they didn't need to have a lot of hits.
The gist I get about the music of the 70s is that its considered the greatest decade because the artists were able to write the music they wanted. That artistic freedom didn't really exist in the 60s and music made too much money by the 80s.Pink Floyd > Rolling Stones and I love the stones, seen them in concert about 30 years ago, great show.
Thing is Floyd put out music not caring if it was commercially successful, the stones put out music trying to be as good as the Beatles, they had alot of great music but were never in the same league as the Beatles and they knew it.

Funny enough, as a kid growing up listening to 'classic rock', I've never confused a Stones song with a Beatles song. I have mistaken the Animals and Bowie for Stones songs on occasion but never the Beatles. I always figured it was the media always comparing the Stones to the Beetles because the Beatles were like UConn women's basketball and everyone else was some other women's basketball team.
Pink Floyd was what Radiohead was for my generation. Music for people who think about their own mortality and sometimes hate their job and sometimes hate their government.
I think the comparison is somewhat valid but mostly because music peaked back in the 70s so Radiohead being lesser than Pink Floyd doesn't bother me too much. Its not like sports where there is still a ton of money to be made by taking risks. Music died with Napster for the most part but certainly the 80s watered it down a bit before that anyways. Like Pink Floyd, I think most people haven't heard a lot of Radiohead either. I suspect most people have only heard 3-4 songs from each tops.I like Radiohead but dont care for the comparison. If you were a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's Floyd was something different they were very unique nobody did what they did and although some probably tried it just didn't work. My favorite Floyd album in Final Cut, I would push somebody down a flight of stairs if they told me to my face Final Cut sucked, lolzzz Also if you are into mood altering chemicals at all nothing beats Floyd. Several Species being a good example.
I don't think I've ever met someone that openly didn't like Pink Floyd
