Diaco just said it's difficult to practice tackling this time of year because the players are tired and sore.

I listened to his presser last night. The dude would make a used car salesman blush I tell ya.
For those that haven’t heard it.

Do we have the softest team in the country? Or does every team in the country have numerous injuries after every.single.game?

I mean I know that injuries happen, but it seems like a stiff breeze would put half of our team on the injured list.

I remember back in the good old days when it was Nebraska's opponents who were beat up after the
Games. The Huskers rarely had more than one or two minor dings on the roster.

Diaco just said it's difficult to practice tackling this time of year because the players are tired and sore.

What an idiotic statement. I have had enough of that then.

I liked the Diaco hire when it occurred. But after doing these weekly threads on how the defense is doing, it is quite obvious, there is no improvement. Not exactly sure what is wrong. The Diaco defensive game plan has to be a part of it.

I like the D line with the Davis twins. They give 100% effort. Stille seems good. Not sure of the rest of them. I like the true freshmen also.

Linebackers, something is just wrong. Young is a space occupier. He is not a playmaker at all. Has he ever made an interception? Chris Weber and Luke Gifford make plays, Dedrick Young is just out there. Weber and Gifford are Nebraska kids.

I think Bray is a recruiter but he is not a talent evaluator, he goes for STARS more than talent. Such as, Paddy Fisher at Northwestern from Katy, TX.

Just what has Scott Booker done with Special Teams? Had the team unprepared for the fake punt at Purdue, BTW I was calling a fake at home. Pierson-El has zero punt return blocking. None. If Nebraska was trying to stop fake punts then I can understand the zero blocking, but nope, fake punts work.

So, coaches that can be fired and I won't cry.

Nebraska has a chance to beat Northwestern in Lincoln. Northwestern has a crap offensive line and a crap defensive secondary.

Nebraska should be applying pressure on Thorson, and let someone concentrate ONLY on Thorson so he does not scramble on them. I will not yell and scream if Langsdorf passes all the time. But if Langsdorf comes out trying to establish the run, OMG, then I will yell and scream.

It is hard to run on Northwestern and Nebraska has a crap offensive line.

My first play would be a bomb to you pick the receiver; Spielman, Lindsey, Morgan, or Pierson-El. I am leaning Lindsey to see if he can handle the spotlight. For me, the smart choice would be Spielman, but I could go with Morgan.

Matter of fact, I would call three bombs on the first series. Obviously, my coaching career would be very short. My defensive coaching would be all blitzes, all the time.

The first thing that came to mind when I heard it was isn't that what spring and fall practice are for? Were they tired and sore then?
It's not like they were tackling well in the early season and this is some sort of drop-off.

I can imagine whining to my old football coach that I was too sore to hit in practice. He would have called for four on one drills with me being the one for 5 minutes straight. It's official Husker Football has been pussified.

@HuskerinBig10 I'm in complete agreement on Diaco. the lack of blitzing and other creative things to try and help our secondary and create pressure on the QB has just been horrible. I'm in agreement on Gifford, if i recall correctly he's the kinda guy we need more of, he was recruited at Safety wasn't he? and he got bigger and now has the speed and strength to be one of the better players in the 3-4. Weber - he's solid but not spectacular, just not a real playmaker, there's a reason he was just a walk-on. Newby and Young are just not that great. Young's lack of improvement just makes it seem like he's one of those guys that peaked in HS. Our DL is decent, Freedom has really disappointed this year, i really thought he was going to make a step forward, but haven't heard his name called for anything.

If they didn't, Northwestern should have dubbed this "T off on Tanner" week.
Northwestern has the 17th ranked rushing defense and Nebraska averaged 64.5 ypg in the month of October. Only Kansas was worse in the entire FBS.

Northwestern's pass D is bad, so the logical thing to do is

Freedom is not a 3-4 end he is a 4-3 end. He would make a better 3-4 outside backer, he would need to drop weight. Diaco thinks he's the smartest person in the room. The talent he has would be better suited for a one gap scheme instead of the two gap scheme he is running right now. I actually loved what Peter said at the big red breakfast today.

I can appreciate his passion. But at what point does it get old and do more harm to the program than good?

Not yet, that is for sure. No way can JP do more harm to NU than what MR has done.

Times have changed, good or bad. But it's not like these players or any of the players over the past 15 years WANT to be bad.

I guess the perfect solution would be to find 85 kids who are just like Jason Peter
