Didn't see the game, just the final score. USA dominates the Slovaks in pretty much every department from the looks of it. But my guy Tomas Jurco gets the Slovaks on the board.

I understand Emerson Etem was booed everytime he touched the puck...Hockey fans have long memories, don't be surprised if that continues well into his NHL career.

The folks in Western New York showed no mercy on Buffalo-basher Emerson Etem, who was booed throughout Team USA's 6-1 victory over Slovakia. He was jeered loudest after scoring. He noticed.

"Yeah, of course, it’s loud and you can definitely hear it," Etem said. "It’s all fun. It’s a hockey town, so it’s expected, but I had a blast out there.

"It didn’t affect my play, it didn’t affect the team’s play. That’s most important. The guys just came together, and it was a hard-fought win."

Etem figures there's one way to turn the fans in his favor.

"Just keep on playing how I was playing, along with the rest of the guys," he said. "I think if we keep rolling like this, we should be good."

lol. that's pretty rough.
No matter how much I hated that little rat bastard theo fleury (or messier for that matter), I had to cheer them once they donned the colours.
For this kid in his first big time international exposure.... oh well, his own dumb-ass fault.

I was thinking the same thing... By the arena, it looked like a really good div 1 beer league game.

I was gonna say it looked like Britannia but figured you might be the only one who got it

lol.. I used to play my hangover hockey there (Sunday mornings).
It still has the best ice in the lower mainland.

looked to me like the old UBC arena, which makes sense, i guess.
cram 2,000 people in (with two bathrooms) and call it a day.

edit... just found the attendance for Dwyer Arena: a sell-out at 1,400 people

I just think its funny how he managed to insult not just 1 city where he is playing for the home team but 2. :L

Could Anaheim be next? I suppose probably not. I think its great that California is starting to see more representation in this tournament and in the NHL, but I think he's gotta remember what sport he is playing and the origins of it. A lot of the places he's going to go are going to be cold.

It was a dumb comment by a kid that as IPW said has done this before about other cities. I'm not going to lose any sleep over what one or two people say.

The city has embraced this tournament and for every negative comment I've heard or read I've also heard 1000 on TV, radio and news paper about how well it has been run.

Maybe the kid was pissed because he couldn't use his fake ID and go drinking on the Chippewa St, or the Elmwood village strip. The media again fuels it by constantly talking about it. Negative actions and comments is what the media want's

Buffalo is not Vegas, Toronto, New York or L.A. and people here know that. But we are passionate about hockey and maybe this young man will appreciate that more than what we offer to fit his needs (outside of the game). Maybe someday he will consider looking at the support fans here have given him and hockey in general for this event.

I have traveled a lot and EVERY city has it's good and bad points. I try and concentrate on the good.

It's not very big but at this time the best we have to offer. It would have been nice if we still had the Aud as a back up but we don't. I'm hoping UB get's into hockey some day.

It doesn't shock me anymore that the negative's get talked about over the positive's.

How many people outside of the Metro Buffalo area know that they constructed a 20,000 square foot temporary building in front of the HSBC arena complete with wall to wall large HDTV's food and drink stands so fans have a place to go and party during the tourney if they don't have tickets or just to kill time before or after games?

Honestly, how many people knew that?

He will skate into the wrong rink one day. Somebody from the opposing team will take note of all the boo'ing and put his fist though his face. The crowd will cheer for the hero that shut him up...

And that's the story of how Etem learned how proud hockey players are.
