For a variety of reason to include a crippling cap penalty, a bad trade for RG3, and poor player evaluation.

I responded theoretically. As I stated above, I'm ok if we take one of 2 tackles with our first pick.

I would say Peat, Scherff or Stanley. Either of the three would make my day.

we need help on the LOS on both sides of the ball . a player of value helps us at either spot and either spot can wait till round 2 if needs be

Agreed, and its still early. But my thinking is, the odds of us finding a good D-lineman to go into the rotation in the 2nd round are a bit higher than finding a starting OT.

You do all realize that at present we only have TWO OTs signed for next year period... and one of them is on IR. We need help on the D-line... we actually need an O-line as we dont currently have one.

I cant believe Im actually argueing this with Skinsdad of all people. :D

i can live with a RT at 5 . i just want him to be the best value at that spot . we can do worse then peat or scherf or stanley

If we took any one of these three at #5, we should all send whom ever the actual GM is, thank you cards and free car wash certificates. :)

This discussion has to be done in light of having a new GM here, who has found gems in the middle and late rounds of drafts because he and his staff were willing to look under rocks and other dark places to find them. I know that there is a tendency to expect blue chippers in the early rounds, but honestly, even if they are projected as "can't miss" type guys, what good are they if they don't fit into your scheme?

i really dont care about the position, fuck it trade down and draft a guard. a pro bowl player is a pro bowl player. i did want leonard williams but that doesnt seem like an option anymore so now i say trade back. there's plenty of d linemen and dbs projected to go in the mid first round.

Mart... you would seriously trade away from Peat, Scherff or Stanley for what would likely be an extra third round pick?? With this teams need for a solid right tackle going on ten years at this point, and likely three guys who could hold it down as good as or better than Jon Jansen who is the best RT we have had here since Jacoby.

Think of that for a moment.. we havent had even a DECENT RT in 8-10 years. I would gladly give up the possible extra 3rd rounder to NOT have to worry about this fucking position for another five or more years.

If we havent learned anything in the last three years, its that NOTHING in the draft is a sure thing. But odds are 2 of the three top OTs in this draft will be available to us at #5. All three are debatable solid values at the #5 pick. Combine that with us actually having a serious need at the position, and its damn near a no brainer.

Bra'h I started the thread. And McShay is a tool in my opinion. After all this is the same guy who all but guaranteed Jamarcus Russell would transcend the position. he was also a HUGE proponent of teams trading up for RG3.

For the most part his cant miss picks end up colossal busts. This is also the guy who would have had the giants take Moses at #12.

My point being, he tends to be rather clueless and flops in the breeze as much as a 15 year old Valley Girl when Justin Beiber was hot.

hey im not arguing with ya. ive learned that walterfootball, mcshay, kiper, mayock, posters on this board, me, the skins tiny scouting department, all dont know shit when it comes to evaluating draft talent.
i like peat. scherff has the same problem as moses but i kinda like him too. i havent done my homework on stanley.

Look there is no question misses happen, especially when you have the clowns we've had here over the years. The reason we have had such a hole since John Jansen has already been explained, the team tried (Brown) and failed and didn't really put a lot of resources into the position. That's what happens with a cap penalty and a draft gutting trade. That does not mean you take a player rated at 15 with the 5th pick. That is exactly what you should NOT do unless you are a RT away from contention. When you are in the position the Redskins are in you absolutely need to hit on this first pick and maximize value. The way to maximize value is to take a player where he should be drafted. The fact that pass rusher is as big of a need as RT this is a no-brainer provided they don't trade down.

I'm a big fan of history and history shows it's much harder to find an elite pass rusher in the 2nd round than a solid RT. One other thing to consider is the money the #5 commands. Even with the new rookie deal that's a shit load of money dedicate to the offensive tackle position.

Regarding Morgan Moses they can't wait on this guy to see if he pans out. Other than maybe Griffin there is not one player on this roster who could afford to lose an offseason. Morgan Moses can not be counted on any time soon, they need to upgrade that position NOW. Just not with the #5 pick

Moses has a lisfrac injury so it's doubtful he will even be ready for next season. Those injuries can take anywhere from 9 months to 2 years to heal, longer for a guy that weighs over 300 lbs.

We have so many holes to fill that if we stay at 5, we should find a playmaker that can help us immediately. It doesn't have to be a RT. A real possibility is the WR, Cooper. If he is the BPAwhen our pick comes up, we have some decisions we have to make.

Cooper will probably be there and Cleveland needs a play making WR more than we do. Drop back a spot, grab another 3rd, and take the pass rusher or OT that they like best.
