Coburn isn't signing for less than 3, IMO. With Homer's cap management history, he needs to leave himself some leeway. We know there will be a mass amount of injuries next season, because let's face it, this is the Philadelphia Flyers we are talking about.

How much money they actually give him isn't as important as the cap hit. Coburn's cap hit should be 2.8M max.

then we bank on the chance no team wants to give up a 1st and 3rd to get him. i doubt another team gives that up for coburn and he is a rfa so the flyers have leverage.

yep.. thats what i said early on.. offer him 2.8 (2.9 is where the compensation goes up to a 1st and a 3rd).. if he gets offer-sheeted so be it, we could really use a first round pick

only thing is.. what happens if he decides to go to arbitration? actually i dont really know anything about arbitration.. i know that a group of ppl decide how much the players is actually worth.. does the team get the choice to sign or not sign? and if they don't sign does the player become UFA?

i do not know. i doubt arbitration helps coburn. he was awful in the regular season. and his post season numbers were not good. arbitration would probably help the flyers.

Going to arbitration is basically just a player being told what his value is, and the team can either match that value or he becomes an UFA.

Truth be told, Coburn was the Flyers best D-man for stretches of the SCF. The title as a whole goes to Pronger, hands down, but IN Chicago - where the matchups favored the Blackhawks - Coburn played exceptionally well.

i dno i might even say coburn was our best defender in the final (keep in mind i dont like pronger haha).. he made very few mistakes (none that i can remember) and made a bunch of important defensive plays, stopping 2 on 1's 'n such, especially in chicago like you said

i think pronger's bad game might bump coburn up to the our best d-man in the final

still doesn't totally negate his horrendous regular season though

He had a horrendous first-half, no argument there. However, post-Olympics, he performed much better. Remember, the Timonen/Coburn tandem as a whole was horrific during the first part of the season - and too much blame falls on Braydon for that. Timonen was a -10 at one point. They both righted the ship, and Coburn started playing up to expectation during the stretch run.

ya well i dont blame timo for anything, ever.. he can do no wrong in my eyes.. if he lets a puck by him, it was intentional, if he turns the puck over, its cause the guy deserved the puck :D

well either way, coburn is not getting 3 mil. no team will use a 1st and 3rd to get him and if he goes to arbitration they will likely put him around 2.5 mil. remember, arbitration is not free agency and teams do not bid for you. people tell you what they think you are worth and that is it.

I just don't see Coburn getting 3 mil, but it'll be close. In the 2.6 - 2.7 range.

I had him at 2.8 in my post-Finals outlook post because he was marginally better than Jones (2.75) and not even close to Carle (3.453). Seemed like 2.8 was the place to be.

i agree. also, with the rfa thing, no team is going to offer him 3 mil. so basically if a team does do that then the flyers should let him walk and if they offer him less then the flyers can sign him.
