I absolutely don't care which team wins the Giants/Nats series....but I'm gonna root for the Dodgers to win their series against the Cards.

I don't give The Giants much of a chance against the Nats. The Dodger/Cards series should be epic.

Well, that is why they play the game. During Giants run for the World championships not many gave them chance and they shocked a whole lot of people. The post season is completely different from the regular season. I expect the Giants to go past the Nationals.

No gave us a chance vs Cincy. No worries -- don't listen to the haters.

Ugh. Don't remind me. I was at game 4 in 2012 against the Reds. Barf.

Agreed....it's fucking weak....MLB could easily go to best of 3 or 5 format for the wild card.

Best of 3 is good enough for me.

Pirates & A's fans won't even feel like they made the playoffs this year....More like game 163

The wild card is weak. This participation ribbon society is weak as shit.

It shouldn't even be considered as part of the playoffs. Just call it the wild card game to get INTO the playoffs.

Exactly it is a damn joke. It is a play-in game. This isn't the playoffs. In sports where the playoffs are actually best of 5/7 series, how can you call a 1 game winner take all the playoffs? The A's made the playoffs but they didn't play one home game? Bullshit.

I get that they wanted to put a bigger emphasis on division winner but if you really want to put a bigger emphasis on division winners, you can easily make the division series against the wildcard team be a 2-1-2 format instead of 2-2-1 format with the division winner getting 4 home games instead of 3

That's too much. Under your thinking, why give the wild card team a home game at all? The wild card team already has at least two things working against them going into the series against a division winner. We don't need to tilt things to their advantage even more.

Yeah I understand why they started Cole last game to try and win the division but in reality he should have been saved for tonight or if they got lucky and won the division then game 1 of the NLDS.

Yeah, I really was surprised the Pirates didn't make sure Cole started this game. Interesting side note: Gerrit Cole and Brandon Crawford were college teammates, and Cole is dating Crawford's sister.
