I know the Oilers aren't sending Hall back to juniors, but if you look at managing the cap 2-3 years from now, it saves you burning one year of a cheap entry level contract.

If they keep the status quo, Hall, Eberle, and MPS all will be due for a big raise at the same time. Wouldn't it make sense if you could stagger that somewhat?

This comes as no surprise to me. It's been speculated the past two games. In fact before the Montreal game last night Nino said he expected to be sent back. When Garth Snow was asked about it yesterday morning he said he would talk to Nino after the game. He didn't give any indication either way. The Islanders handled the entire situation with class.

Nino will rejoin a very talented team in Portland. Which has a legit shot at going to the Memorial Cup. He will also play for Switzerland at the WJC.

It will be interesting to see how good the Swiss team is in Buffalo. The Winterhawks have a rookie from Switzerland named Baertchi who's one of the top rookie scorers in the entire CHL. Granted he's playing on a line with Johanssen & Rattie. Which is probably where Nino will be playing.

I don't think money will be an issue for the Oilers. The question is will they have enough cap space to sign all three players. If Burke blows one of them away with a contract the Oilers will have a difficult decision to make that's for sure. Turn about is fair play after all.

not sure if Burke's primary goal would be to try to actually take one of them, or just make Lowe overpay. either way it would make TSN spin for days.

I imagine it would be huge news throughout Canada for the entire week Edmonton decides what to do. Both cities would be on Hall, Eberle or Paajarvi WATCH.
