I swear! So far, this guy has been balling. I'm still upset about the fumble, while he was going in for a would-be TD, last week. He did drop a wide-open pass on Sunday, well. However, this guy has been filling in for Jordan Reed, quite nicely. Until then, Niles was a forgotten man at TE, but has been a good STs guy. Of course, Jay Gruden likes his TEs and this guy has been taking advantage of his opportunities. He has 12 catches for 185 yards and a TD. Not to mention, he's averaging 15.4 ypc and has three catches for 20+ yards. It seems this team has lived up to the phrase, ''next man up''. Reed's been out and Paul stepped up. RGIII gets hurt and Cousins steps up. DeSean gets hurt and Roberts and Ryan Grant steps up. The bottom line is, I like how Paul has been playing. Period.

SkinFaninATL have you seen Niles in interviews? The guy is pretty intense. He appears to be very serious about helping the Redskins in any way possible. You like to see players on the team you root for have passion for the game and willing to do whatever it takes. That is Niles. I think he can improve on his mistakes this year, because he will put in the time to work on fixing those mistakes. That back shoulder fade in the end zone was super.

Niles Paul is a great special teams player...this is why he made the team.

He is proving to be adequate at TE as well...if he keeps this up, we may even call him good.

This ^^^^^^^^^^

If Paul and Cousins click, sorta like Doug Williams and Ricky Sanders did, cool. I'm all for that and hope it happens.

Right now though Paul is closer to being Devin Thomas than he is Chris Cooley before injures took their toll.

A laughable comparison. If Paul has a few more good games he could surpass Thomas' stats by mid-year. He also contributes on STs. All Thomas ever did was luck into a few fumble recoveries for the Giants. You are certainly a "glass is half empty" guy. Whatever - glad to see that you appreciate player contributions.

he is a 5th round pick who switched from wr to TE . he plays special teams very well and now that we are throwing it to him he is showing he can help us .

i think he is moving past paulson and could eliminate te as a need in the draft

Yep & remember he was the guy screaming about other ST teammates going through the motions last season (some folks even criticized him for that - what a joke). ST coverage appears to be pretty good at this pt & that could make a difference.

I have been as critical if Paul as anyone. Glad he is playing well, hopefully it isn't just a flash. Hope he has it together.

Thomas played ST for the Skins as well and had a huge game against the Giants in his second year.

My point is, I'm not ready to crown NP as a player who can be or will be depended on a consistent basis. As part of the post said that I quoted. "If he keeps it up we may even call him good." is something I agree with. He's not in the good category yet though.

I also said I hope Paul and Cousins can become akin to Doug Williams and Ricky Sanders. Who both started out as non-starters and got to know one another and feel comfortable through practice with each other. Maybe, hopefully, Cousins and Paul have developed a similar comfort level in practicing with each other and that translates to production from the tandem on Sundays.

If that's half empty in your opinion so be it. IMO its not putting on BnG rose colored glasses because a non-starting player had a good game/couple games.

All I can go by is what is happening this season & Paul is doing a good job. That is hardly being a homer. I see nothing wrong in being excited over a player doing well thus far. If he fails later I will call him out. IMO he has already surpassed Thomas. Thomas was drafted very high in the 2nd round (almost a 1st rounder) so I hardly view him having 1 or 2 good games as a success. Paul was a 5th rounder & IMO has already justified the pick.

Keep acting cool & being the Debbie Downer Redskins fan - it works for you.

I never seen them, but I bet he is intense. I would say that I have always been intrigued by this guy, even when he was at Nebraska. He was a good KR and had some play-making ability as a WR, pre-draft. Then, for whatever reason, Shanny had the idea of him gaining weight to play TE. Then, he just got lost in the shuffle. The only thing he did was catch that roll-over TD against Dallas on Thanksgiving, when RGIII was at the helm. Ironically, he had a similar play on Sunday. Other than that, he was just playing ST and KR. When Reed was added, I thought he was done because Paulsen was the number 2 guy. Now, Reed can't seem to stay healthy and Paulsen is more or less a blocking TE. Niles has been taking advantage of his opportunities. Yes! I loved that back shoulder fade catch in the end zone on Sunday. Great play! :10:

Fair enough. I'll be the too cool for school Debbie Downer Skins fan. You can be the way too giddy n excitable Nellie Nuthugger Skins fan and we'll be one another's foil.
