From the Athletic - said he would do three mocks, this one being his first. Not trades in this one.

1:12 Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia
3:81 Roman Wilson, WR, Michigan
4:121 Max Melton, CB, Rutgers
5: 143 Jordan Jefferson, DT, LSU
4:145 Isaiah Davis, Rb,South Dakota State
6:206 Joe Milton, QB, Tennessee

Thoughts?

(Seems late for a QB…)

Not a fan. Heading into the season with Jarret Stidham and Joe Milton doesn't provide much confidence. Maybe Nick is predicting a free agency pick up at QB. Bowers is a freak but I feel we can get good value on a mid round TE.

I'd rather future proof with a T but, Bowers would be instant help in 24.

Love the Bowers pick

If we could somehow then work a way to get JJ McCarthy, I'd be really happy

But we don't need a WR that early with some of the other needs

This draft and Baker Mayfield as an FA - and Payton would be ready to roll.

Take advantage of this T class Denver. Nick always does an amazing job. Great Mock overall

The Roman Wilson pick is decent value, but otherwise I don't like this mock.

Rattler looked like the best QB in Mobile and Penix/Nix didn't help their stock at all. They feel like Drew Lock did in the draft. Lots of talent, but not really anything to show they are worth a first round pick.

Above anything else - arm strength, scrambling, accuracy - a QB must show that he can play under pressure - both "big game" psychological pressure and the on field pressure .. and that *competing* is a driving force of inspiration ..

If I were a GM - and sometimes i wish I was - any QB who opts out of a big game or a tryout would be crossed off my list .. Penix declining to play in the game shows me all I need to know .... Same goes for Williams in the bowl game but that was no surprise

So I guess you wouldn't draft Williams, Maye or Daniels either? None of them played in a bowl game and I don't blame them or hold it against them one bit.

It's an entirely different scenario when you've played well all year and already the top tier player with tons of tape vs someone like Penix who has been frequently injured, had tremendous talent surrounding him and considered a second tier qb who then proceeds to stink up his week of practice with plays meant to expose strengths and weaknesses, then you decide after that poor showing not to play.

Sure there are legitimate reasons not to play, its not a controlled situation, he's unfamiliar with the guys around him and doesn't know the scheme, or at least it isn't tailored for him.

But he was given the chance to show he can be that guy, and showed poorly.

I don't hold it at all against Penix. Nothing to gain by the senior bowl after mediocre practices and everything to lose in injury.

Not to mention he actually played on the biggest stage possible in College and did really well in the Semis and didn't play poorly in the championship so he really needs to prove to you he can play in the Senior bowl???????? Makes no sense to criticize him for that.

Correct .. I want competitors, guys who live for the big moment

I hope to heck we don not trade up for any of those three

I'll take JJ McCarthy over any of 'em anyway

It is about competing .. about wanting to be the best one out there and showing what you are made of ..

The Senior Bowl has NFL people all over, it isn't simply an exhibition, but a chance to introduce yourself both on and off the field

I want no part of football players who opt out of playing football when the chance arises

There are all kinds of legitimate question about Penix -- his injuries, his age, decision making, etc -- this was a chance to have reps from NFL teams watch him in a game ...

I know this might seem like a silly comparison, but in the 1970s and 80s, my uncle was in Double A baseball, and every time he'd come to the house, I would drag him outside saying "come on, watch this, watch this" as I show him one thing or another with my swing or throwing motion ..... I think there is something to be said for living and breathing sport, and competing ...

The guy with a legit complaint is Bo NIx - who had Penix take practice snaps Nix could have had and then left the game in Bo's lap - I wouldn't think that was cool.
