I know your team already has it's cups Pix, but I'd LOVE to be in the same position as the Hawks this offseason if it meant a Stanley Cup :-)

i know what you mean...they mortgaged the future for a cup and won the bet. however...as a fan, i'd be a little more comfortable in knowing my team could be competitive every season. the pens have worked the system well to this point. it's resulted in one cup and a few other decent runs. i guess it doesn't help that tallon laid some eggs before he left, but those are some nasty numbers to have. if i were a hawks fan...well, i'd still be celebrating...but in a few weeks i'd calm down and realize the road ahead is pretty rough.

The proposed Brassard/Huselius for Spezza trade is a wash, so the Jackets have 11 mil of space left for Volchenkov. And maybe another winger or two.

Phillips UFA next year. Lee, Karlsson and Kuba the year after. 9m, and Regin, Foligno and Cullen all waiting with hands open, and having proven they deserve it. And they have to replace Volchenkov. Wow. Rock and a hard place.

and it's amazing how some of the teams that are so lackluster (ie EDM and TOR) have a lot of guys signed and not a ton of wiggle room in comparison to other bad teams. poor spending i suppose.

pix it is not just about the amount of players they have signed. for instance, the pens have 18 players signed. are all of them going to be on the roster? because i know they need to sign some defense and gonchar possibly leaving will leave them in need of a number 1 defenseman.

I don't think the Hawks are in that awful of a position. If they can trade a forward and a D-man, they could clear up some space and still have an excellent team. It's Huet and Campbell that are really killing them. I think they are going to have to make some tough decisions, but they aren't just going to drop off the map from this year. They'll figure it out, move a few players, and likely be a contender again next year.

With Hossa, Kane, Toews, and Keith all averaging just under $6mil per year through 2015, they're actually set up pretty well for the longer term if they can get by this hump the next couple seasons. That's an excellent core of players at a reasonable price.

They have GoGo and Orpik right now. Not exactly a top pair. I expect the Pens will be making a splash in FA with a defenseman or two.

To think that we lost an entire year of hockey because the league was unwilling to accept a $45 million hard cap put forward by Bob Goodenow.

yup.
i think it was 2 years before the lockout i remember looking at a list of every teams payroll and i don't remember most of them, but i remember the devils had the 6th highest with 57 mil and i don't think the highest was much over 70 mil (i think that could be wrong)

.... thats what the league wanted to get away from.... well you're right back at it you idiots.
thanks gary you moron.
