maybe I'm biased, but what Lucic did there was not to intentionally try and kick the puck in the net, he was clearly trying to control it.

I don't disagree with that at all, but it's the rule that bugs me. It's so incredibly gray. "Well, you can direct it...but you can't kick it. And maybe you weren't trying to kick it into the net...but it went into the net, soooo?" I understand the concept of the rule and why it exists, but so much is left up to interpretation and when it's called these days it's rarely because of the reason the rule exists.

Or, instead of a half goal, the player could choose to save it as a whole goal for later, the popular "goal in the bank."

Not sure this is what you want...although it seems like the race to worst is over.

I don't mind gaining momentum for next season, we have the talent just need to stay healthy

Why would they do that though? The kick works as a last resort, not a first option. I can shoot the puck a lot better than I can kick one, just like pretty much everyone can.

And speaking anecdotally, even though I won't hesitate to kick a puck at/in the net if that's all I can do I don't actually end up doing it very often at all.
