One could easily argue Graves before Messier. The majority of his career was spent in Ranger Blue.

To me, Brian Leetch defines "Ranger" followed by Gilbert, Richter and Giacomin.

And of course Lucien Deblois.

Perrault was poetry on ice.

Hasek was a tasered octopus.

And Ovechkin isn't even close to Langway, Gartner, Bondra or Johansson. Langway is the right choice here.

I disagree on those other fellas. Ovechkin will likely be the franchise leader in goals, assists, and points, before he turns 30 years old. At 28, he already leads in shots, power play goals, and goals per game by wide margins. All the more impressive since he hasn't yet entered the top 10 for games played with the team.

The Langway-OV debate is close. Without Langway, the Caps' franchise might not exist or very possibly could have been moved, but nobody has ever moved the needle among fans anywhere close to Ovechkin. No Caps' player has ever won the Hart except OV who has 3. Langway had 2 Norris Trophies. Both took their teams from garbage to consistent playoff contention, even if not producing playoff results. Tough call. I'd say Langway now. In 5 years, it will be OV without a doubt.

The one that struck me was Robitaille. I have a hard time seeing him over even a latter stages Gretzky and, with two Cups, Doughty makes a hell of a case as well.

Agreed re Hull v. Mikita. I would give the edge to Richard, primarily because I think he generated more intense sentiments in the fans.

I love the Teeder Kennedy choice. Heart and soul of the team's first good run during the 40s.

Although for contributions both on and off the ice during the formative years of the team, I could make an argument for King Clancy.

N.Y. Rangers: Frank Boucher

I am not too sure about this selection. Granted I wasnt alive to see ole Frank play but Rod Gilbert and that GAG line of the early 70's was magic. Especially 71-72. Vic Hadfield and Jean Ratelle centered by Rod Gilbert was pretty good. Yeah, I would say Brian Leetch would be a close second, and it could easily be a toss up.

Rod Gilbert Rangers stats:
#3 in games played (behind Harry Howell and Brian Leetch)
#1 in goals
#2 in assists (behind Leetch)
#1 in points
#1 in Even Strength goals
#1 in PP goals
#1 in GWG
