Messier over Gilbert?Lundqvist?and most of all Leetch?
The man made a GUARANTEE. I mean, come on. That means something, right? LEGEND.

You mean when he guaranteed they'd make the playoffs in 2001?

So I'm not arguing in favo(u)r of Sundin as the Toronto pick, but I don't think it's as crazy as some people seem to think. He is after all the franchise all time leader in scoring.
Sundin was my favourite player in the league during his time in Toronto. Guy was an unbelievable player, did everything and then some. I'd probably still rate him higher than some others if it weren't for his dumbassedness during his departure from the team.
I think this is how ESPN does it's hockey research. It asks real hockey fans questions like this so their on air staff might know something.
Yeah. I'd probably have him at 3 personally behind Sittler and Salming, but I don't think Sundin is an insane choice.
The Toronto choice alone says all you need to know about this list.
Borje Salming. He has to be #1 on the name alone.
Yeah...up even if they want to stay "somewhat" recent"
Hello...Doug Gilmour maybe?
Messier over Gilbert?Lundqvist?and most of all Leetch?
Exactly what I was thinking, and others....I mean fuck didnt Harry Howell go fight a war and then come back to play hockey? Blinded by 1994, I guess.

He could easily be #1 on his own merits too.
Generally considered the first European player to be truly successful in the NHL and also holds several Leafs team records.
Not to mention coming back from quite possibly the most gruesome injury in NHL history (up to that point since Malarchuk was 3 years later).
