I like Kramer's style. If you call everybody terrible you're bound to be right eventually.

I think we all know Kramer isn't the best source for player evaluations.

Great post. Can't disagree with most of it. You're more of expert on college QBs. I understand they aren't looking good, but will they come out as better rated QBs than Dalton as far as accuracy goes on all 3 levels of the field?

I'd also like to add, it's nice to see Dalton being able to read defenses. Many times, that's what keeps talented QBs from ever hitting their stride. Though I'll withhold judgement until we play some real defenses (outside of 49ers who made Dalton look bad).

This is the same boat we were in in 2005. And then it all went downhill. Personally, I would hold off on predicting playoff victories at least for now. Don't forget we're still in the same division as the Steelers and Ravens. It's harder for us to even make the playoffs than most teams, let alone win a game.

I think the main reason it went downhill was a lack of leadership (namley from Marvin Lewis but also from Palmer who seems to be really lacking in toughness from the neck up). Im not saying that this group is definitely going to have playoff success...but I could see it happening which is a nice change. We all knew that the Carson/Ocho Bengals were never going to succeed on any meaningful level. This group I could actually see it happening so it's freshing to at least be able to have some optimism for the future. We've got some good pieces in place (good young D-line, we have our QB and a true difference maker/playmaker at WR). I think the core of a good team is in place. Now they just need to keep adding to it.

Kramer is a bit of a one trick pony when it comes to evaluating players...but he is pretty funny..

The NFL is designed to have parity, but if you're a team like the Bengals and blow all the opportunities you're given, then it's your own fault, not that of the league.

Spend money on a scouting department and hire a competent GM and there is absolutely no reason a team can't be fighting for a playoff spot in a mere 2-3 years.

And by parity, I don't mean everyone has identical records. By parity I mean the worst teams in the league are given every opportunity to turn it around. Call it welfare if you will. And by design, there is nothing that makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. Looking at it at the macro level.

While it's well set up for parity, the better front offices still find a way to dominate....certain franchises seem to contend every year, while others seem to suck year after year....
