I agree he is probably not worse, but I doubt he's any better also. They are one in the same.
Also why carry three vets, if needed due to injury sign one off of his couch. Only reason to run with three QB's is if you got a very young future starter.
I agree you don't need 3 vets, but if you bring in a 3rd QB you have a chance to evaluate him against Weeden for a few weeks in practice and then make the decision on which to keep. I am not as worried about Weeden as everyone else seems to be, but yes I do think we can upgrade.

Jason Garrett explains why Cowboys signed Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers, but not Dustin Vaughan

Jason Garrett explains why Cowboys signed Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers, but not Dustin Vaughan

Moore, 26, joined the Detroit Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2012. He was part of the team’s 53-man roster the previous three seasons but was never active for a game.

“Kellen is just a really good football player and has been, really throughout his whole life,” Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said Monday. “I think he had 53 starts in college and he won 50 of them – just a very, very productive player. He knows how to win, knows how to play. Obviously, Scott [Linehan] was with him in Detroit and had a great experience there with him – someone he’s been very fond of and we’ve been fond of since he came out of school.

“He’s obviously not the biggest, the strongest, the fastest, the greatest arm – all of those things that some people get enamored with, but he’s a good football player at a really important position.”

Jameill Showers was released when Dallas trimmed its roster to 53 on Saturday but he was added to their practice squad a day later. The dual-threat quarterback out of UTEP is expected to play multiple positions during the week to help the Cowboys prepare for their upcoming opponents. Garrett said the rookie could see practice time at safety, linebacker, wide receiver, quarterback and running back.

“There’s a lot to like about Showers,” Garrett said. “He’s a really talented kid, he can do a lot of things. Obviously to be able to play quarterback and also have the role that he had on special teams throughout training camp and the preseason, that’s impressive physically to be able to do that. Not many quarterbacks can do that and not many special teams guys can do the other thing.”

Dustin Vaughan was one of the Cowboys’ four quarterbacks throughout training camp and the preseason, but he was also released when the roster was trimmed to 53.

Vaughan made the 53-man roster last year as an undrafted rookie free agent, but he struggled with inconsistency throughout the offseason, training camp and the preseason.

Why didn’t the Cowboys sign him to their practice squad?

“I don’t want to get into all those specifics, but we like Dustin,” Garrett said. “Dustin did a good job for us, and he’s a developmental quarterback who we believe can play in this league. He just needs an opportunity. He did some good things for us, I think he grew as a player over the course of his time here.

“But as we shook everything out, bringing Kellen in, we thought was the best move for our team right now.”
