Hmmmm, starting to wonder if NE will be serious contenders in FA. Deebo to the Commanders for a 5th round pick. Even coming off a less than stellar season, getting up there in age and injury concerns this looks like a steal for the commanders.

Was NE even in the bidding? One has to wonder.

Former 49ers front office guy Adam Peters is now with the Commanders. My guess is that he had a bit of an inside track and made his move. Patriots seem to be sitting on their hands and playing by the rules. People are beginning to think that the Patriots might end up spending stupidly to meet the league salary cap requirements. Will Wolfe try to carry $50M over to 2026 and have another 4-13 team in 2025?

The trade seems to have caught everyone by surprise. The Chiefs were licking their chops for a chance at Deboo. The Giants supposedly were getting ready to start dealing. My question is this........."If the Commanders offered a 5th, why didn't the 49ers ask around to see if a team like the Patriots, who are WR starved, might offer a fourth? Maybe They were asked and thought fourth in their position was a bit much for a one year risk.

But for a 5th? He had 50+ receptions, 3 TDs and his YAC is top in the league. Not a diva and could mentor the kids. I would've done this trade if I was the GM and the opportunity arose.

He is still very expensive, regardless of the trade. It was a 5th that was given for a WR that would likely have been cut!

He will get Diva money. Will we throw all that money on an aging star while rebuilding??????

If they want to be competitive they have to pay someone. They have plenty of cap, even if they signed him.

But they don't have to pau an older WR.

Sign: LT or RT Edge maybe DB or S

Then work the draft
They have zero luck drafting WRs.

They have plenty of cap to fix most problems including OT, DT/DE and or CB/S and or WR.

I'd take a WR in FA as I have little faith in them being able to draft one. Take a flyer on WR late in the draft. Hope he turns?

It all boils down to what their draft strategy is? At number 4 or even trading back to 10 they can get one of the top prospects. This isn't a deep draft after 15. The top 15 look to be starters day one. There are quite a few defensive players in the 2nd and 3rd round that could be starters or given time be solid contributors.

I feel where the Pats fail is developing WRs. Taking a WR who is a bit long in tooth on a short term deal for a smaller cap hit would make sense. Paying Debo anything remotely close to what you might pay Higgins make no sense. Having a lot of cap space and using cap space wisely are two different things

It's all about supply and demand. Higgins likely not going to be available anyway. Deebo would be or is $10M less than Higgins. NE is going to have to pay above market value to bring someone in. I'm ok with that.

I read Deebo was around 17 and Higgins was at 26?
Yeah I am not a big Cap deal contract deal follower. I feel I know positions of need and players I would like to see come in. But the financials I don't to much muck with.
