Don't be surprised if the 49ers sign Cousins for the league minimum like the Steelers did with Russ. Purdy has another year on his rookie deal and the smart thing to do is play it out. Kyle has always wanted Kirk as his QB and if he hasn't lost it, SF seems the likely destination.

That's where I would go if I'm Kirk. Even as a backup. It would be a matter of time before Kyle gave him a shot.

Agreed!!
The biggest question is... is Kirk himself done with the game. SF seems to be a lock, but I believe, and can't prove, their move to Atlanta was more a final destination one rather than one refuting Minnesota.

i think KC is in steep decline much like matt ryan was at the end . now it doesnt hurt the niners or browns or any other team to find out at a steelers Russell wage

KC is not going to the Browns with its current situation. Since they owe DW all of his money, the only way KC goes there is after they cut DW which I don't think they will do.
its entirely possible as KC might cost you a mil or 2 .

I read where he's considering retirement. It also looks like Minnesota is going to hold on to Darnold. He'll be sought after. I keep hearing Cleveland though.

They reworked the Watson deal weeks ago.

I know DW restructured his contract. KC worked with Stefanski in Minnesota for a year.

FYI: Russell Wilson is in on a veteran minimum deal: one year costing Pittsburgh 1.21M, Denver is paying Wilson the majority of his salary this year 37M.
Cousins would get a similar deal with any team that he signs with, (if he doesn't retire) with Atlanta paying him next year.

Here's a more detailed breakdown;

If Kirk Cousins signs with another team next year, the Atlanta Falcons would have to pay him $27.5 million in base salary:

  • Trade
If the Falcons trade Cousins, they would be responsible for $37.5 million in remaining proration, but his $27.5 million base salary would transfer to his new team.

  • Release
If the Falcons release Cousins, they would still owe him $27.5 million in fully guaranteed cash.
The Falcons could also spread out the dead cap hit over two years if they release Cousins after June 1, 2025:

  • Release after June 1: The Falcons would owe Cousins $40 million in 2025 and $25 million in 2026.

Cousins also has a $10 million roster bonus for 2026 that would become fully guaranteed if he's on the roster on the fifth day of the 2025 league year.

Cousins' contract is considered "tradable" by some, and he could be a bargain option for next season. However, it might be difficult to find a trade partner after his 2024 season performance.
