Y! SPORTS

The National Football Post reported that the league has talked about widening the field sideline-to-sideline from 160 feet to 195 feet, which is the CFL standard, and the league might look into the idea again this offseason.

:tsk:

The ligg is gonna pay for all the stadium reconstruction to accomodate the new width of the field too?

It's pretty funny that they make it seem like the NFL should be following the pace of the CFL? That'd be like the rest of the world following the US when deciding soccer rules.

How does adding space (i.e. room to accelerate) make it safer? All this would do is raise the value of having the fastest players.

One can argue that it might actually be more unsafe, because the hits in the middle of the field could have even more speed.

Would ruin all the established records by favoring offenses (and kick returners).

Please no. And college players already have a hard enough time adjusting to the NFL. This would make it that much more difficult, mainly for the defensive players.
Offenses already have a big enough advantage.

That's what I'm thinking, too. The article notes that the CFL has less injury causing collisions - but are there defensive athletes on par with those in the NFL?

Interesting... would never happen though.

right?

It's hard to say how far this would go - it's radical as shit, imo, and a

Dear NFL. Why don't you just focus on improving the quality of your current games by figuring out HOW you're going to call games, and showing some continuity.
