There are factors that go into YAC. QB rating and YAC don't really work in that way. When WR's are diving for passes or waiting for late passes to float to them, it's real tough to get YAC. When they're not being thrown open because the QB takes a sack on a blitz, it not only doesn't hurt QB rating, but takes away YAC potential. I've seen a lot of short completions that don't give the WR a chance for YAC this year. Those completions pad QB rating.

How many 3rd and longs have we seen where he'll dump the ball for a 10 yard completion/immediate tackle short of the sticks for field position? Those plays pad QB stats and work against YAC.

If our QB was really clicking, the YAC stats would be there.

we all agree on the main factors (QB, O-line, and receivers cause what else is there?), granted we disagree on the order. we all know these factors are tied in together and the differences are small.

to me just continue adding in passing plays with an eye towards the play-offs. not asking to "open up' the pass, but do work on few routes. do throw a red zone pass between the numbers, continue with one or two deep routes, try one dynamic route with Davis, etc.

i find it disturbing that people hold a grudge against smith because he hasn't lived up to his draft position. we have one of the worst pass blocking lines in the league and lost our top 2 recievers. even then, smith is having a career season.

i'd hate to beat a dead horse but i wonder if these alex haters around here are the same people on espn boards who told me drew brees sucked when i wanted to trade for him after his 3rd season. rumours were a 3rd coulda grabbed brees.

Nobody is holding a grudge against Smith. I just want you to be fair. Smith is just as responsible for the poor YAC as the WRs.

Say it. It will make you feel a lot better.

Were 10-3 with this teams, why you always so negative in your post clyde. Seems your just as guilty for drilling smith in his own right or blasting people just for saying anything good about him. Kind of getting old. Nobody here is proclaming him the savior, but this team has us at 10-3, lets see how it finishes out.

Where the fuck have I been drilling Smith? I hate BS posts like this that try to paint that I'm going around trying to put Smith down every chance I get. I've already admitted that Smith has surpassed expectations this year. What the fuck more do you want?

People are consistently putting down guys like Joe Staley and Michael Crabtree, who's also having his best season, to put Smith in a better light. No, Smith is just as responsible for our offensive woes as the WRs and the OL, and probably even more because he plays the most prominent position in sports. That's what I was calling iguana out for. If you're gonna talk about how our WRs limit YACs, let's also talk about Smith limiting YACs as well.

Get. The. Fuck. Over. It. Being 10-3 doesn't mean we can't be critical of our weaknesses.

No doubt that that its alex/the OL/the wR's that all make up for the YAC problem and they all get the blame when its clear as day. I just think the espn board got in your head too much that just because iguana didnt blame smith, hes an alex lover and yada yada. All the 3 facets deserve blame for the woes, but i feel you come on negatively as soon as smith is not being blamed or when someone says something good about him. Just my opinion not intended as an attack BTW.

Just realize that clyde is basically desperate to see Smith fail......after about 10000 posts and 1000 hours ripping the guy there is no alternative if he wants to maintain this distorted sense of his own football knowledge he maintains.

God forbid anyone mentions Alex Smith's name in a negative light on this board. Anyone who does should be labeled as a hater and a pessimist, right?

You don't think the QB should be, at the very least, briefly brought up in a discussion about OFFENSIVE/PASSING deficiencies? When was the last time a team has one of the worst passing offenses in the league and the QB wasn't the problem or at least a major part of the problem?

In this thread, Iguana placed some responsibility on Smith. But there's absolutely no doubt that he sees Smith through rose-colored glasses and frequently tries to minimize Smith's struggles.

You do realize your perspective is entirely unhinged at this point, right? You couldn't possibly be more defensive, because deep down you know you made dumb comments about Smith for years. People make reasonable, defensible criticisms of Smith on this board every hour....then there's your alternating exaggerated criticism/hyper-defensive routine.

How would you know? You're so far up Smith's ass you can't possibly tell how many "dumb" comments I made.

Never said qB wasnt a problem or that he shouldnt come up in the discussion, like you said hes the main point but god forbid anyone mentions him in a positive way. Either way theres 2 sides to it. Dont gotta come off like jerk about it sometimes. Just be glad were not on the espn boards anymore lol

Oh please. People have been pimping Alex Smith all year on this board. Even I've said that, to my surprise because of this offense, Smith is most definitely having the best year of his career. Don't act like people around here are walking on egg shells when it comes to propping up Smith's play.

This thread is about our lack of YACs. Why would you expect anyone to put Smith in a positive light in a thread about our poor YACs and generally poor passing offense? There have been plenty of threads dedicated to Smith's good play. This thread is about the offenses poor play. And guess what? Smith plays QB for this offense.

Again, when was the last time a passing offense was one of the worst in the league and the QB wasn't a major problem?

Then why the hell are you bitching and calling me out on bringing up Alex Smith in this thread? Is it not usual for people to bring up the QB in a thread about a poor passing offense? Or is just Alex Smith that's off limits? If I can't bring up Alex Smith because we're 10-3, why can everyone else bring up the OL, the WRs, and the coaching staff?

My God. This blind and frankly unwarranted loyalty towards Alex is bordering on lunacy and utter paranoia on this board.

I realize you might still be shell shocked and defensive from the trolls on the ESPN boards, but get over it already.

OK, this is so stupid, but I find it fascinating. How did this current argument get started? Hockey ripped a bunch of guys on the offense (though not Smith), and Imac responded with the sarcastic "Smith is perfect". Hockey correctly notes he never said that, and from there it was on. It was a Smith detractor that started this, because he felt Smith didn't get enough criticism in a particular post.

Maybe, maybe....take a look at others before starting in on the whole "delusional Smith fans" thing yet again. This is why you come off so obsessive.

It wasn't Hockey, it was iguana. That debate was between iguana and I when hockey decided to but in and claim that I shouldn't be bringing Smith up.

Maybe if you weren't so far up there you would've realized this.
