In everything that you do in life "fit" plays a role. That said, I'll counter your assertion with...
If he's a problem why would the Cowboys or any other team want him? Now, you could be right, but there's nothing to support that perspective. In fact, there are plenty of reports contrary to the usual "attack the character," approach.
Not to get too far away from the Pickens conversation, do you remember the foolishness about wearing hats backwards here? Well, maybe the assholes aren't always the players! Here's an excerpt from one of the many reports about Pickens character.

NFL inside Peter Schrager says the Cowboys have nothing to worry about.

“I’ve talked to the Steelers folks. George Pickens is demonstrative on the field, but he is not an un-coachable player," Schrager said on Get Up. "In fact he does have a great way about him in the locker room and is very well liked in Pittsburgh.”

Again, I'll ask, you @deanpet21, could it be that his being demonstrative on the field, doesn't comport with this tight assed, buttoned up, conservative, western Pennsylvanian team?

I went over to the main board, and the Pitt fans are saying he is a locker room cancer and is a head case. Didnt get along with Tomlin. Why would Peters want to bring in someone like that here? Dallas is desperate they took the shot. Of course, he has the talent and could get his head straight.

sty, why would the Steelers give up on a talented young WR. I think they dont like his attitude and off field stuff. If we are talking about just talent, why would you trade good young WR for a 3rd? I know you say him and DK do the same thing but this wasnt about talent for the Pitt. He must be a problem with Tomlin and the locker room.
That same logic can be applied to Tunsil , twice

These are interesting but conflicting reports about the same guy, so let's talk about him being a "locker room cancer" and "headcase" a bit.

Here's a list of Steelers QBs since Big Ben retired or was on his last legs:

2021... Mason Rudolph (Ben played this year and was a shell of himself)
2022... Kenny Pickett & Mitchell Trubisky
2023... Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph, and Mitchell Trubisky
2024... Russell Wilson & Justin Fields

(I think it was a mistake to continue playing Wilson instead of Fields and not retain Fields for this year unless...)

Pickens arrived in 2022 as a 21-year-old and is now 24 with trash at QB. If he's a cancer, they gave it to him, and that headache likely comes from not meeting his expectations and/or their own. The Steelers are a proud organization, and oftentimes, pride impedes progress. This move actually weaknes them and internally they may be resigned to sacrificing Tomlin's stellar W/L seasonal record in favor of an opportunity to get their guy at QB in next year's draft. Honestly, given their unenviable historical drafting position, who would blame them?

SN: If he "could get his head straight" in Dallas, why not here??

Is Tunisl known to be a locker room cancer or being benched for other issues?
C'mon with the character assassinations, I've given you several reasonable explanations about this move, and at least one excerpt declaring him as well-liked in Pittsburgh. (There are many others supporting this position) We on this board know firsthand what winning does for an organization and its players. Pittsburgh is a team where winning in the regular season isn't enough. Their fans are extremely vocal about it and at times, have called for Tomlin's dismissal. Players are immune or unaffected by what's being said about their workplaces. Most have opinions of their own, and others have every right to like those opinions or not, especially the decision makers.

Talent wise he became redundant with the acquisition of D.K. We've talked about this before the draft.

Once again, they need to get a QB and moving Pickens...

1. Makes them weaker and more likely to end this year in a more favorable drafting position.
2. Pickens became redundant with the acquisition of D.K.
3. Satisfied the buttoned-up, tight assed, conservative nature of Western Pensylvanians who didn't like his frustrations being displayed on the field.
4. Further strengthened their 2026 draft hand by adding picks

oh cmon. You dont trade that kind of young talent unless something is wrong. Plus Dallas is letting him play out his rookie deal. why no extension for the young talented player?

So Tunsil is no different?

If we traded for Pickens, would you be concerned?

Take a look at post #2994 by @kbso83432, then tell me that the Steelers are bad at scouting WR talents, or the more reasonable perspective, certain types don't fit into the Steelers' homogeneous ideas about their team members.

Yes, I dont think AP would even have thought of it b/c of the behavior issues b/c the compensation is very cheap for that type player at his age.
