Odor better learn to take some balls or he's not going to be seeing many strikes.

Exactly. Once teams see him a few times and get their scouting done, then he'll have to adapt. Let's see if he's capable of such.

Funny little tidbit I just noticed is that all the teams in our division have better records on the road than at home...just found that interesting and unexpected.

Wow......that's more than interesting, especially since we're about 1/3 of the way through the season.

I think Joe was extremely lucky last season to have such a wonderful record - 43 of 46 save opps. And it looks like his luck has run out. It happens to most.

I also think it's going to be interesting to see how Sardinas and Odor do once they're around for a little while and the other clubs get to see them more than once or twice.

I'm not sure I'd I would say Nathan was lucky... The guy is 2nd all time in saves to Mo, if I remember correctly he had one of the best strikes to walks ratio last season to, and he does already have 13 saves on the season despite the 5+ ERA. Not sure how many he has blown though. This season is more of an outlier in his career than last but it's likely at 39 age is starting to catch up with him. He did put up pretty good numbers last season though even though he lost some velocity.

Trevor Hoffman has the second highest save total.

IMO he was more than fortunate last season. There was a four game stretch there, when he came in with no outs and a two run lead, and left with the bases loaded/given up a run. Another one Martin threw out the tying run at the plate for the third out. And still another where he came in with a one run lead, got 2 guys on and AB made a great catch at third to end the game. That's 3 I can immediately recall where he got saves and just as easily could have gotten a blown save, if not a loss.

For this season, he's got 4 blown saves and last night he gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk. BUT he did get the save.

For the record his SO/W ratio last year was a little better than 3-1, which is good. But Nathan has posted 7 seasons himself which were better than this ratio.

And like you said - actually echoing my point - he's 39 and age has caught up with him, and this includes last season IMO.

All the kudos in the world but it's time to go home and put a new rear end in his recliner.

for that kinda money, they'll have to change the locks on the door to keep me out

I'm with y'all.

Listen, I honestly do respect Nathan, appreciate what he did for us (overall), and think he was a credit to the game. Was being the operative word.

And, he's a genuinely terrific person off the field.

But sports are what they are, and what it is, is: "if you can't get the job done anymore, it's couch time."

And for the record, he's 9th in saves and has an outside chance, IMO, to get to 6th.

The thing I like most about this is that he was signed by Dombrowski. I hate hearing tigers fans talk about how they won the deal and screwed us over. Ranger fans can point to their closer and say " enjoy your 9th inning heart attacks."

Roark is former Rangers property, one of the guys given up in the Christian Guzman fiasco, talk about a trade that never should've been made

Yeah that was a terrible acquisition that year Guzman was total dog crap 7 for 46 .152 avg, 3 BB, .204 OBP, 1 double, 1 RBI.

Jorge Cantu was almost equally as worthless, although I think he did hit 1 HR which was a game winner on the day they clinched at Oakland that year. Could be wrong but I think thats what I remember

Both of those rank towards the bottom of JD deals. Those were panic moves trying to make it to the playoffs.

They get overlooked some because of the Cliff Lee and Molina deals that year I think. There were lots of deals made that season though for a team that had no money essentially

Nice guy maybe, but the guys from The Ticket told a story about one night after a game at Wrigley last season where they were hanging out in a bar in Chicago after watching the Rangers play the Cubs, and Nathan and some blonde chick in her 20's who was not his wife came in together, drank tequila shots like champs until last call, and were basically all over one another. The Ticket guys said it became awkward for them so they left ahead of Nathan and his "road wife".

I know a ton of ball players do it, and there's guys out there who do far worse, but I'm not so sure I would refer to him as a genuinely terrific person.
