A nice contract for a QB that hasn't sniffed a Super Bowl.

absolutely.

60 million guaranteed, for a quarterback who has a knack for getting knocked around quite a bit (similar to RG111 to a certain extent in that category) is a good deal for him, I'd think.

I wonder how much Cam would have gotten if he was good?

That sucks. Well at least the Seahawks weren't the ones that popped the cherry of the QB market. I'm sure Wilson and his agent are high fiveing somewhere right now.

I was hoping they would tie more into his contract.

This just shows how valuable a "franchise" QB is in this league. Cam isn't even an accurate passer. Wilson should ask for 25 - 30 mil. I mean, why not. Somebody will pay it.

The only reason they QBs are getting paid is because its extremely hard to find a good QB that can be the face of your franchise. Newton sense being drafted by the panthers just had one winning season with the panthers last season they shouldnt have been in the playoffs.

It is no surprise to them that Russell will be well compensated.
He is a king in Seattle.

As a Panther's fan I am very good with this. The deal is fair market value for an upper echelon QB. It is less now than it would have been next year.
I would disagree with those who call Cam an average QB. Yes he needs to improve his accuracy but he also needs a supporting cast of a good O line and a good receiving corps. It would appear that the receiving corps issue has been addressed and we still have work to do on the O line.
As to his durability - He was definitely banged up in 2014 with an Ankle issue, a rib injury and a back injury. The Ankle issue was off season surgery to correct a problem that has been there since college. The rib injury was football related and the back injury was from a car wreck. The dude is durable.
Also you cannot look at his passing stats in a vacuum. The threat of his run causes issues for defenses and he has more total touchdowns in his first 4 years than any QB except Marino and Manning.
Yes I wish he would cut out the Superman crap and the first down crap but all in all I like him as the Panthers Quarter Back. He is a quality guy that continues to build his leadership skills and in not a distraction off the field.

Cam is worth so much more than this though in this league. I am shocked they took it.

Not only is Cam a solid QB, he's young and he is EXTREMELY marketable. Hell Cam might be the most marketable guy out of the 3 young guns up for deals.

What the hell?

I think of all these guys Luck will have the highest pay day.
Some can/will/ do argue Seattle Defense, or running game or whatever they want to try & keep Wilsons money down. In Indy there is only Luck. The Colts go as far as Luck does. I wont see the Colts having any real leverage when it is time for Luck to get paid.
Wilson is already playing on one of the top teams. makes it a bit harder to leave for a lesser team. Indy....... Well luck may land on a better team if they let him get that close to being a FA.

So I say Luck will end up with the biggest pay day.

Much smaller than I would have guessed. Cam's agent is probably getting some nasty phone calls right now.

It is really going to set up a contentious showdown IMO between Wilson & Seattle and Luck & Indy. Both teams will point to this deal and both agents will likely point to the sky with their middle finger.

Hard to imagine 60 millions guaranteed deserves a middle finger.... most of us won't sniff a million in our lifetime, let alone 60 ....

Boy this is a TERRIBLE contract. I have no idea what Newton's agent was thinking.

He essentially took less money for Cam than Kaepernick, an inferior QB, got when you factor in what Cam was already set to earn and the fact that we are one year down the road.

As I said early in the thread, this deal is likely going to hamper, not help, the Wilson and Luck deals because of how little Cam got.

This is a great contract for Cam. Let's not for get he is a slightly above average qb that takes a beating. He is smart to grab the guaranteed money when he can.
