It was a late hit. It was a creampuff hit but still a late hit nonetheless. What pisses me off about that play is Shea looks at first like he is trying to avoid Rodgers but is such a fat lazy fuck that he decides it is less effort just to fall into him as he was stumbling. Such an idiot.

Does appear 99 was "trying to" stop and his momentum just made him fall... the "hit to the head" was incidental" but this is a QB we are talking about... They will get this call (and its in the book) all the time.

But this is football... you can't just stop on a dime!

"I don't have sound but was the whistle blown before 99 hit Rodgers? "

I don't think Shea(#99) was trying to stop at all. He saw Rodgers go down so he stopped his speed so he could hit him on the ground. Whether intentional or not, he hit him late on the ground. Justified penalty.

So if a Lions player did this would you say the same thing? I said it was a penalty by the rule book and will get called all the time since it's a QB....

That's exactly what I see... land on him on the ground, maybe see how that collarbone holds up to 260 lbs flopping on him. He could have easily gone over the top. Fwiw, that's what our coaches taught us to do in that situation 40 years ago.... never stop but if he's down just go over the top to avoid a penalty. Only he knows for sure, but I don't think there's any doubt that he intended to do exactly what he did. But that doesn't matter. It was an easy call.

If there was any intent, in a split-second scenario, it would be to force a turnover, not hurt someone. Rogers was over the ball for a second, no way to know for sure if it had come loose or not.

It's a foul, by rule, but it is pretty pussified.

What bothers me most about these calls is the apparent favortism. It seems like you need to be extra careful around Brees, Rodgers, Manning and Brady.

I agree. As a matter of fact, they work the refs for calls, and sometimes it works.

If you actually did the numbers I bet Brady doesn't get more calls than anyone else.

Regardless you can't hit jump on a QB who's already on the ground and down.

Yes, bc our defensive players have hardly any self control and discipline so it wouldn't surprise me to see us commit that very same foul. The team I root for has no barring on my opinion of this play.

So then make the call how damn hard is that? If it's a penalty there is no reason ever to not make the call.

99 who hit him was the guy who broke his collar bone in the first game with the Bears. He was going in to hit him with intention to try and get him out of the game again. It was clear he did not try to avoid him but put a hit on him
