The problem is...a liberal outlet takes a poll, the misleading would typically go in favor of their point of view. So in this case, it is probably closer to 95% don't find the term offensive.

It is always funny when liberals tell somebody who isn't offended that they should be. You are so dumb you don't even know you should be offended. Truth is...the unoffended are just more mature.

i disagree it isnt hate speech to believe if you have one particular set of organs that , that is the bathroom you should use . sorry but 99.9 % of the people have rights , privacy rights . that isnt hate speech , that is a POV . the solution is to have private stalls in showers and bathrooms but the cost is prohibutive to do that

Flip side is, no one has a right to tell some one what words mean to them either. Its not a liberal vs conservative point. Its a common sense question. We are trying to define a word that can have many meanings and narrow it down to a negative based on the feelings of some. While I wont try and discount those feelings, just because some one chooses to see it as a slur, does not mean the simple utterance of the word, or writing it in print makes it a slur.

That is actually the winner Shark. The PC police are out of control. It is probably not just PC things either. Social media has given people the opportunity to express themselves, in many cases they would be wise to think "does this need to be said."

For the 10% of Native Americans that feel the name is a slur it is whether we think so or not. Sty had a good reason for his feelings. I get all that. Wise is a sanctimonious, self-appointed high priest of Native American affairs. He's an absolute moron for believing that, despite the poll, "Washington Redskins" (proper noun, upper case "R") is a slur. That's because that's what the poll was intended to find out. And its finding that 90% of Native Americans don't find the name offensive ought to convince anyone with a brain that the name "Washington Redskins" isn't a slur.

Let's also please put to rest this whole business about whether you'd call a Native American a "redskin" (simple noun, lowercase "r"). Most would not for a variety of reasons. One is that you don't know if that person would be one of those offended by that term. Another is that, when using that term, you're using it in the context of directing it personally to an individual. In view of that and the fact that the term "redskin" has some racial connotations, it'd be stupid to direct that term personally to a Native American.

However, it's a far different thing to to say to that same hypothetical Native American that "I'm a big fan of the Washington Redskins." In that case, you're not directing anything personally to that individual since the use "Redskin" there is part of a proper noun and not some generic use of the term "redskin." This is nothing different than saying "Although I'd never call an African American "*****," I'd have no problems saying to him or her that "I'm a big fan of ***** spirituals.""

I was planning to take a break until August before the real football discussions start, but this thread and the new WP poll has my blood pressure a little high.

For all the so called fans of this team who are offended by the name REDSKINS…FUCK OFF, find another team to call your own and leave us fans of the REDSKINS alone. There are 31 other teams that could use your, whatever you want to call it.

When this thread started trending to the transgender BS, it went sideways in a whole other FUCKED UP direction and IMO, needs to be kicked to the curb as well. A DICK is a DICK, a VAGINA is a VAGINA, pretty simple…use the appropriate restroom mother fuckers!

As for the how one identifies ones self, thats a personal choice. So as long as that choice does not infringe on any one elses rights, its all good. If Im really worried about confusion, I will simply instruct my nieces and nephews and any future grand children to be sure they pee before we go out, as we wont be using any public restrooms if it really bothers me. Most that paint this country's issues into a liberal vs conservative box are generally confused individuals in any case.
