New Non-Offensive Chicago Blackhawks logo

Have your own opinion on logos and the Native American images. Regardless what your opinion is, IF the Blackhawks ever did change their logo, this one is not bad at all.

I'm not sure what they want. Is any mention of Native American history not allowed? If their goal is no discussion of Native American history, I guess the PC people are winning.

If they aren't allowed to use Black Hawk as their mascot, then they ought to change their name.

They're named for a military group of some kind, I think. I don't think their logo is in poor taste, but not really up to me. At least they're not using a racially charged term, thatttt would be embarrassing!

Being totally unbiased given that I think their whole get-up is among the best in the league, I could definitely see why Aboriginals would find the logo offensive. Like pix said, the name itself is kosher but when you have a logo depicting a coloured face with war paint and feathers in the hair, you're pushing it in 2016. Compare the logo with that of the Washington NFL's and there really isn't much of a difference.

They are named after an actual person, Chief Black Hawk. The logo is a stylized depiction of that human.

Black Hawk's story is a pretty good one and anyone who wants them to change that name is... missing the point

Redskins, however...


In a fine line, but the best comparison (and one that fell on deaf ears with my Redskins loving brother in law) is if you wanted to honor Martin Luther King and named your team the Kings. Or, similarly, if you named your team something that started with "Nappy-headed". THAT'S the difference between Redskins and Blackhawks.



Columbus' team is actually (somewhat) named after a Native American person also:

They are officially named for the Civil war Ohio regiment that named themselves in honor of Chief Blue Jacket.

Which is better than the Columbus Van Swearingens. But I might be able to get behind the Columbus Marmadukes.


Edit: I like the look of the new logo, but see absolutely nothing wrong with the old one. Second best unis in the NHL. Only Montreal is better.
