I bet most of ya have seen the Joey Votto/fan dust-up from yesterday already?
Fans trying to catch a $5 baseball, and perhaps negatively affecting YOUR TEAMS chances to win just bedazzles me.
If you were at the Globe, and had a fan sitting next/near you and doing this, how would you react? Best guess....

Umm, what does that have to do with today's game?![]()
You missed one minor point. Why in a 3-0 game you send in an unproven relief pitcher AND leave him in to pitch two innings and give up another 2 ER.Had to miss the entire game tonight due to a business dinner. I was pissed I'd be missing the debuts of Lucroy and Beltran. Now I'm glad I missed it. From the highlights, recap, and thread on here, it seems as though:
- Yu was dominant until late
- Ump had a questionable strike zone
- Bundy was excellent
- The previous two points made our bats go silent
- Alvarez looks like a bust early on
- Our pitchers now have a catcher they can trust with pitch calls
- The Astros lost, which caused some happiness and others disgust at its mention
That about cover it?

Honestly can't say how I'd react. Personally, I HATE that area of the ballpark because you have to be on alert every at-bat. Kudos to this fan for being aware of the ball. I can't really condemn the fan for not being aware of where Votto was, but I'd like to think I would have been. The guy seemed really bummed about it afterwards, and Votto handled the aftermath perfectly.
Estrada vs. Mchugh today...... Should have a decent chance to gain some ground if we win.
a $5 ball

On the other hand I have thought about how great it would be to keep an opponent from catching a foul ball just inside of the railing and then have our batter hit the next one out of the park for a game winning HR.Yeah Votto did a nice one there, and you're right, the fan knew he fucked up. Besides, it's the Reds of 2016 and they're going no where. But overall, it ended well.
I'd just hate to think I caught a $5 ball and deprived my 1st baseman from catching a ball, we lost the game, and then lost the division by 1/2 game. I would not sleep that night, and no amount of shit y'all could cover me with would compare with the verbal beat-down I'm giving myself. Like for FUCKING EVER. Seriously.
Plus Votto just flat out missed the ball. He should have made the catch anyway. This has nothing to do with your point, but those balls are way more than $5. Just felt I needed to mention that.
